Just saw this in the WI forum, thought it might be of interest to a few of you fine folks on the other side of the river. I saw the promo poster when I was in the Nova last week but at that point they weren't releasing any details on the beers. Looks like a solid line up.

Can someone elaborate on the event for a first-timer?

Does the $50 get you a pour of everything or just a few pours?

Is it generally well run or crowded? Prices fair for the bottles on sale after?

I'd love to pick up bottles of the NG fruit sours (not the rasp tart and belgian cherry but stuff like the peach and blackberry). Barring that I'd probably pay $50 just to taste them given the reputation.

The event is Saturday Feb 7th from 1-4 in the Casanova Caves 100 tickets will be sold. The price includes unlimited samples of 50+ sour and wild beers and a complimentary sample glass. Tickets are $50 and some of the beers are limited but every one should be able to try just about everything.

Peach and blackberry were brewery only releases and you could only get 2btl per person. They are whales and well worth a trade for one of each but not a whole lot around still.

My brother in law wanted me to trade one of his away. I told him I didn't want to deal with it and just to keep it and drink it for a special occasion.

He did open his other one while we were visiting him after Xmas, it was pretty good.

I would imagine that you are setting yourself up for disappointment if you go in expecting the peach and blackberry sours. You might get surprised but this list doesn't indicate that they will have them and I would think it is pretty unlikely that Nova has any quantity of these bottles sitting around.

If they have the NG wild sour, that would be awesome as that was a kick ass beer that I'm mad I didn't buy more of.

I've been to a few events in the caves at Casanova and I think they do a nice job. The typically limit the number of tickets to ensure that everyone at least gets a fair shot to try everything. Keep in mind that quite a few of the beers look to be bottles so I would not assume that everyone will get some of all of those, but in my experience the events are always worth the money and well run. They do a large beer fest each spring that is well attended. A lot of off the shelf stuff but quite a nice variety of rarities sprinkled in for those that seek them out.

As for the fairly priced bottles, they are a retail liquor store so I would assume fairness. Keeping in mind that some of the sour beers tend to run pretty pricey, your not going to find anything on fire sale. And for the NG sours, I would not expect that to be pouring, although who knows they were pouring Sam Adams Utopias at the last beer fest so they obviously dont spare any cost when putting on an event.

Yeah, cool stuff regardless but I'd purchase my ticket yesterday if those were there. I saw the New Glarus on the list but didn't know what "too many to list" stood for, regular stock stuff or whalez.

Either way it sounds like a fun time, good to hear it's well run.

I'm off to convince the wife that we need to go to another beer thing two weeks after BA silhouette day. Wish me luck.

Looks interesting, but are these things really worth $50? I realize they need to cover the cost for all the samples, but still....

Consider the cost of a couple bottles of sour beer..I would say so. Chance to try all the Destihl options should be quite a treat. Looking forward to this event.

I'm genuinely confused by the interest in this event as it stands.

You have to love sour beers obviously, and there are some gems on there. Nothing that is impossible to get from the internet or trades but very very solid list. I could easily drink $50 worth of beer at that event.

I suppose I am just spoiled because of going to the WTWBA event at El Bait Shop but this list makes me disappoint (because I was kind of wanting to make the trip).

Also, is Lindeman's Framboise on there on purpose? :grinning:

The WTWBA event at el bait was outstanding. I'd be at this event in a heartbeat if the list was as good as the WTWBA event was so I do agree it's not worth traveling (far) for.
