I picked this up last week on a whim and curious who out there has had it. There are real limited reviews of the beer here. I tried a sour a couple of years ago (RR Consecration) and couldn't handle it, maybe my palate has changed since.

I have some coming in tomorrow. I'd bet on me posting a review/here shortly after.

    Cascade distributes to Florida?
I picked one up too, looking forward to trying it soon.

News to me. I got an email from a local beer blog that said Total Wine received some limited supplies. Normally if they state a beer is being held at the front desk, I assume it's good and buy. Sadly, I've never even heard of this brewery before. :astonished:

I thought it barely got out of Oregon. Maybe I'm mistaken.

A few shops down here in San Diego got some. I got a bottle from KnB Wine Cellars.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. The fruit came across as a grape-like flavor that I thought was really tasty. I wish I could have purchased more than 1 bottle.

Yeah we get limited supply of it as far south as Jensen Beach/Stuart, FL. We usually only get Kriek and Apricot, but if Sang Noir is in Jacksonville, I'm hoping a case will make it down here. I will buy all of it to drink myself(with my wife's objections). :-)

    It wasn't cheap, I think around $18.99.

Yeah, that's the going price for Kriek and Apricot too. To me, both of those are gold, so I can't imagine the Sang Noir being bad at all. Their sours are on point.

Are they worth aging, or should you drink sooner than later?

I'd say if you're curious drink it now. If you have multiples, you'll make the decision after the fact. They will certainly hold up over time if you want to lay them down.

I will say the two I've had are damn sour, and unless you cork it you likely won't(or won't want to) finish a bottle in one sitting.

It's fairly similar to Consecration, but much less refined. I'd advise against opening it alone unless you want an ulcer.

Really? Is it that tough to finish alone?

YMMV. I found it really overdone: tons of bourbon, vinegar and lacto. It pretty much epitomizes what I dislike about most American sours.

Don't think it cost $18.99 when it cost me $21 here in Portland

RE: Florida distribution: There were some bottles of Sang Noir at Kingdom Liquors here in Brandon as of two days ago, along with some The Vine. We seem to get shipments of Cascade here in Florida about once a year - all I saw last time was some of their Kriek.

Haven't tried any of the bottle yet but I've had it on draft and its not quite as puckering as consecration but has a really nice depth of barrel and red wine grape flavors. Pop it open with a friend and see what you think. If you like it grab another bottle or BM me of you can't and ill be happy to send you another for something from Cigar City ; )

My buddy and I split an order from Cascade and opened a Sang Noir about 2 weeks ago. Holy crap man, this beer was exceptional. The balance of sour and bourbon was just perfect. I liked it so much that I ordered a couple more from Cascade. It's definitely a top-rated beer for me.

Like others have said, if you have multiples, I'd drink one fresh and age others. It will age well, but it's so so good fresh too! I would also advise splitting it with a friend.

I've had the 2009 and 2010 on tap at the barrel house and thought the beer excellent. The 2010 seemed a bit more sour than the 2009, but that may have been because it was fresher (it had just been released when I tried it).

I'm with pmoney on this.... If you have more than one, then I would try one fresh and age the other bottle for a year or two to see what develops. Either way, this is an excellent, well made sour.

Also, at least to my palate, I did not find the sang noir to be as sour as Consecration, which probably explains why I preferred it to Consecration. However, again, that's just my opinion (your mileage may vary depending upon driving habits, etc....).

Also, as Schmeal pointed out, $18.99 is a very good price for this beer. The beer tends to be $3 or $4 more expensive than the apricot or kriek at the barrel room, both of which go for $18. I suspect that either the distributor or the retailer priced the beer the same as the kriek and apriocot, assuming that Cascade sells them for the same price. In other words, you're getting a bargain.
