I wonder if,by chance, the thick tight Northern head rather than adding carbonation (an impossibility)
but stops the beer from losing it
by means the head being a cover as such

It doesn't matter whether YOU consider Nottingham or Derby northern. They're not. Geographers and the people who live there get to decide that, not you. That was not the point anyway. An American wrote a blog post saying that ALL NORTHERN landlords categorically preferred Gravity dispense. This is horseshit and even more bollocks when you realise his survey was carried out in Nottingham.

The north / south thing is as much a cultural thing as it is geographic. Geographically the north / south thing is about as pertinent as east England vs west England.

Pale Ale and Bitter - different names for the same thing. Pale Ale in the brew house, Bitter to the man down the pub.

Anyone who argues differently is talking from their nether regions.

It's true, and most people from the West Country will argue about what exactly constitutes the West Country too!

Also, it's just like how people who love beer will argue over what defines certain styles. I.e. what's a mild nowadays? What's the difference between stout and porter nowadays? What is a "traditional' or "British" IPA? When does a beer become "double" or "imperial"?

There's historical evidence based on the uses of different terms to apply to different beers and at different times, which can form one answer, and then there's answers that form amongst different groups of people, such as what a Bitter is up Tom's way.

It can be a tough old thing to have to think about sometimes.

Does the definition of "nether regions" differ if you are a resident of Northern England vs. Southern England!?!

    Cheers!

If 6 years as an adult has taught me anything, it's that humans can't really agree on anything.

I'm also sick of these alternative beer facts.

That's the general view though the Trent follows a highly curved pathoThe shape of the country does not lend itself to a clear dividing line.
I live about 300 yards south of the Trent just outside Nottingham. We do not regard ourselves as either Southerners or Northeners. We are in the Midlands.
