Just curious, what is the deal with the wrappers on the taps?

Just a guess, but probably overnight seals to keep bugs (the microscopic sort) out.

Just wanted to convey my appreciation for the idea and implementation of this thread @M-Fox24 !

Finally got around to taking a deep dive reading the posts and links over the three plus pages. The information posted throughout helped my understanding of the nuances of cask service which I hopefully can now share pictorially once Winter clears and I'm more out and about.

The Beer Temple (at the intersection of Elston Ave, California Ave and Belmont Ave) is my tried and true local source for cask. They rotate a few local breweries dedicated to brewing cask conditioned kegs, and also offerings from England and elsewhere. Their cask engine pumps from a keg stored in their basement, and also offer dual refrigeration for their drafts served at either 35 F or 44 F depending on style.

Hope to share their pours on future visits and others from around the country during my travels.

    Cheers!

I had Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on cask last month. It was amazing. One of the best beers I've had all year.

this is why (except for dedicated brewers like Hogshead, an EXCELLENT local-to-me purveyor of cask ales, mentioned in a couple posts in this thread) most cask in this country seems (to me) to be sold via promos like "firkin Friday" or the like. The proprietor can buy a firkin, tap its and sell it in a few hours, and not worry about the arcana of cellar mastery, which even in the pre-hazy IPA days of the American craft beer movement (say 1990-2012) required space, time, and knowledge even most craft enthusiast bar owners didn't have.

Let’s see what you all think about this post from @TheMattJones88 over in the NE-Beer thread

    Might it be cask?

Yes – They use sparklers, which is the culprit

Well, I meant at the bar where it was served. Is it frowned on to chat with the bartender these days?

If so, I'm grossly guilty!
