So while I was in Denver a few years back my eyes were opened to cask beer. In ohio where I live, this doesn't seem to be very popular at all like it was out there. So instead of trying to search out all the places that offer it on my own I figured it would be much more effective to use the collective knowledge of everyone on BA. Where are the breweries that have cask beer regularly in the midwest? I stumbled upon union brewery north of Indianapolis but that is the only one I've found thus far. Thanks in advance!
Here in Chicago, the Goose Island Clybourn brewpub usually has two or three beers on cask. Half Acre does a firkin every Friday, and Revolution usually offers something on cask Friday/Saturday.
There is a place in Libertyville actually called The Firkin and they have a hell of a selection, do not carry BMC to take up tap space, and almost always have 2 beers on cask. Place has awesome food, a great environment, and a very knowledgeable staff.
If you enjoy your '90s style web pages, check out this link. http://www.gotham-imbiber.com/cask-beer-finder-america.html I don't know how up to date it is, but it has listings for the US & Canada.
Just use beermenus. Cask choices are listed separately. I don't think you can search on places having cask choices but a quick scroll through recently updated places will bring a few up fairly easily.
FFF always has a cask offering ... last 4 or 5 times I have been in there it has been ZD on cask ... and it's delicious.
Cleveland has several locations that usually have casks. FatHeads was already mentioned, Buckeye Beer Engine in Lakewood, Nano Brewery in Ohio City, etc. I haven't experienced one yet in MI, but just recently discovered that a local place has a beer engine and rotates different firkin on occasion (just had a firkin of HopSlam last week).
https://www.facebook.com/newaygobrewingco This place is set to open in Newaygo, MI (about 30 minutes north of GR) soon. From their page: "The brewery specializes in producing English style cask ale served from traditional casks with the use of beer engines. They also offer many local favorites and creative takes on modern beer styles."
Little Traverse Inn on M22 between Glen Arbor and Leland has 3 hand pumps, and the owner is a Yorkshireman.
Ashley's in Westland, MI has been doing a cask ale festival every year for the last few years. Here's a look at last year's fest: http://caskalefest.blogspot.com/ The Fort Street Brewery in Lincoln Park, MI also does different cask ales. http://www.fortstreetbeer.com/
Not sure where you are in ohio. Union Brewing Company in Carmel, IN (close to indianapolis) brews and serves real ales. I have not been there and very few ratings on here. been meaning to try to get over to this place. http://www.unionbrewingco.com/about-ubc/
