Saw on the Cask Republic facebook page that they are starting up a beer club on Tuesday's. The details were a bit vague. Any BA's sign up yet? Does it cost anything? Is there a secret handshake involved?

I was wondering about this myself. Anyone?

I guess I could just go over there and find out but what's the fun in that?

could be good. cask republic sort of made me laugh for the first year of its lifetime with the empty bottles they use as decorations. "here's a bunch of beer that's significantly better than what's on our 50 taps. also, the only way you recognize what these beers are in the first place is if you know that they're better than what we're offering. so really, we're either confusing you / doing nothing, or mildly screwing ourselves by displaying them. enjoy your dinner!"

(incidentally, i also thought that their food was really good, and that despite the beer menu being bloated and, when it comes down to it, redundant/stupid, they do often have a couple really good selections)

You don't need to pay any money you just need to sign up at the bar with your name and email address. They have food and beer specials for club members only, which is an ok deal, nothing special. However I went there last Tuesday expecting there to be an actual meeting where I can meet other beer lovers and talk to new people and although there was a reserved table for the meeting, nobody actually sat there so it ended up being me and my friend drinking and eating at the bar like we would have any other night. Hopefully more people will get involved and the meeting will get more organized as the weeks past so members can actually meet each other and have it more of a beer club atmosphere because l liked the idea of the whole thing just the implementation was poor.

I had no idea the botles were empty! That's hilarious. But yeah, I ended up being a lot more optimistic about their selection than the reality presented. Still, it ain't half bad by any means and I'm in no way opposed to having two quality beer bars downtown instead of one.
