Has anyone tried any of this brewer's beers? I hear about them and understand they just had a big expansion. I haven't had a chance to try and they seem a bit under the radar.
Drinking a Danger Ale from them right now. It's a malt forward, 6% "strong ale". They can this and a pale ale. Haven't had anything else other than Danger Ale. I would recommend picking up a sixer if you see it. It's refreshingly different since it is very malt forward, but has just enough hops to keep it balanced. Will try the pale ale for sure based on this one.
I tried a can of the 17-7 Pale Ale this weekend--it was good, but not especially noteworthy. I would drink it again, but wouldn't go out of my way for it.
I thought the Danger Ale was rather good. I would very much have that again. The Cream Ale was just okay. The only other beers on tap at the time (mid September) were hop forward, which is not my thing at all. But, if you're up in Two Harbors they've got a new taproom which has a good vibe and there's not too much else around if you're pushing past Duluth.
I had their wet/fresh hop this fall and thought it was the best of the year. Haven't tried anything else though.
Also had the fresh hop mosaic a great brew.... last week had a can of 17-7 PA thought it was good a tad too malt heavy for my liking but still good stuff
I've liked what I've had (the 17-7, Danger Ale and cream ale). Well crafted, balanced brews. When they expand distribution to the Twin Cities, I'll definitely buy them from time to time. And if you're in Two Harbors, stop by their tap room. It's pretty nice.
I enjoyed the 17-7 at the Grand Superior Lodge this spring. I was thoroughly confused about what Castle Danger was. It's a cool name for a community, but would be an even better name for an actual castle.
These guys are on their way to the north metro this week, Northgate, Rum River, and Princetons will be getting cans.
