I came to founders at 6:45 and waited maybe 10 minutes in line to get my pour. I noticed people in the first line closest to the door as you walk in was backed way up so I went to the line at the center of the bar which wasn't bad at all. I think the keg did blow about 5-10 minutes after me. By my estimation the 6pm tapping lasted for about an hour and 15. Plus they had a 9pm tapping. Not sure how long that one lasted. To be honest I was expecting it to be busier than what it was. Granted I sat outside, but that wasn't bad with the heaters going. I've heard that this will continue to be tapped periodical in the coming weeks.

I will say this about Lockharts, I personally saw the mug club members at the end of the upstairs bar from 4:15pm (when I got there) until 6pm (basically when the keg blew) order AT LEAST 14 12oz glasses. I heard the downstairs bar was even more mug club members drinking just as much. That is where they really screwed up because well over half the keg was drank by 6pm. I am glad I got the seat I did when I got there at 4:15pm as it turned into a shitshow quickly.

@tommyz - you should've walked up to the bar and I would've gave you half of what I had, I didn't even see you there.

I really was calm. We came at 4:30 because Coopers said on Facebook that the doors would probably be closed by 5. We left at 6 and there were still seats to be had. Really enjoyed the beer and the calm atmosphere.

Is there any need, really, to advertise this beer? At this point, I think it'd be better left silently tapped, and let word spread. Less butthurt all around.

Im guessing this will be tapped at one or more of the following: Lizardville, La Cave du Vin, & Townhall.

Thanks for the info, but I was mainly referring to all the MI people that attended an event that didn't turn out very well.

I don't want to give the name of store yet. I'll give Founders a couple of days to respond to my email, in case they don't want it announced. If I don't hear back I'll name the store on this thread tomorrow afternoon.

Anyone know how distribution works? I contacted Founders when the CBS tappings started, and they told me to contact the distributor, so I did. The distributor for SE Michigan told me they delivered barrels of CBS to 8 accounts only, and provided the name of those accounts. However, Lockharts was not one of those accounts, even though they are in the distributor's region. I know of at least one other location that has CBS and was not among those listed either.

The thing that really grinds my gears about the Lockhart's release is that they didn't even admit that they made a mistake in releasing it to the members hours beforehand. Tons of people complained and their excuse was simply "Sorry, there was a lot of demand for that beer."
I honestly don't know if I will continue to recommend that place to people.

Looks like founders employees got bottles of CBS

Distribution only has as many rules as each distributor wants to implement. There are some who are very fair when it comes to divvying up limited beer. But even then- it all boils down to two things: the distributor's relationship with the breweries and the shop/bar's relationship with the distributor. Especially with limited kegs; distributors have the power to determine where those go. If a shop owner has the ability to land a keg of CBS and decides to drink it himself, the distributor might not care. If Founders finds out and decides that they care, you might see that distributor not get as much limited beer, but then you're getting into messing with both company's ability to make profit. So that won't happen unless there is some egregious abuse (like selling on the black market).

Bottom line- choose shops and bars that you trust. Choose beer buyers who you like and who you know will do everything in their power to put good beer on tap.

And remember- sometimes a great bar has 15 solid taps with no whales.

Employee bottles are always a great idea. Lost Abbey puts out Mac12 BA Serpent's Stout for their employees.

Not that you were opining but I think that's cool of them to give them a bottle. Pretty sweet gesture.

Yeah I think it's pretty cool of them to do that. That tweet was pretty fucking stupid though.

Lockharts really burned us last night, got there at 4:45 and immediately talked to our waitress about wanting CBS, no mention about it already being tapped. Around 6pm she avoided us completely then came by when I had to flag her down to order our food and she told us they were out of CBS. I have never been to an event advertised and run so poorly. I wasn't feeling great but decided to tough it out and head down to RO for this event and ended up with nothing to show for it. If I had known ahead of time that the mug clubbers were getting access to it HOURS before it was supposed to be tapped, I never would have wasted my time. What really got me was that after she told us they were out, I saw the manager guy bringing out glasses so I asked him what was going on and he pretty much told me they hadn't anticipated the demand, even though I guess they did a ticketed event for KBS? He didn't mention it was tapped hours earlier! He did bring us out about 2 oz of flat CBS from the bottom of the keg so got a taste of it but let my friends try it for the first time, it didn't taste nearly as good as the normal CBS.

Because of this, I can't even think of going back to Lockharts, it's the principle!

Was disappointed in getting shut out last night. Tonight I'm drinking a glass of Hipster Brunch for $5.50. Restoring my faith in humanity. Thanks, @Brianw508
