    CBS kicked shortly after 7:30pm.

I think the reason it was so laid back (compared to the last Founders event at Coopers, where it was so packed they weren't letting anyone even come in the door) was that it was announced so late. Even the crew at Coopers didn't know for sure they were getting CBS until yesterday morning.

Probably going out on a limb here but does anyone find it ironic that Founders released CBS at the same time that they announced selling 30% stake in their business? Or is it just a coincidence?

Coincidence. They released CBS when it was ready so they probably made it 12-15 months ago. I doubt they coordinated something with that kind of timeline.

They have not been announcing it publicly, for the past 2 days they have tapped a keg every 3 hours, noon, 3, 6, 9. Rumor is that they will have it on tap for a while. You can follow the Facebook groups DrinkGR or West Michigan Craft Beer enthusiasts for daily updates.

Thanks buddy. We appreciate you coming in. We Try to be fair with things. I'm personally not a big fan of lockharts. I will say this, I know it's not cbs, but I've got BCBS 13 & 14 here. I have no idea what I am going to do with it. Possible barrel aged night, or may do a vertical 13, 14, 15. I'll let you all know when I tap them.

I agree 100%. Anyone saying the CBS release was a reaction to anything... IE decline of backstage series, Dissenter 'disappointment,' partnership news, it's shortsighted. They have had this deal in the works for months, but that's nowhere near as long as they've had this CBS in the works.

I wouldn't be surprised, however, if they moved forward their timeline on announcing Blushing Monk so that they wouldn't drop both big pieces of news in the same week. Originally the Backstage 2015 announcement was supposed to come this week.

I'd hardly call it selling out. It's a strategic partnership, a minority partnership (company board consists of 2 Mahou members, 4 Founders members), affording Founders the possibility of future European support and expansion, while guaranteeing the company's stability long term. Dave and Mike aren't going anywhere, nothing in the leadership, brewing and distribution processes is changing (aside from the minority board presence). Still Michigan owned and Michigan brewed, with a stable future of job growth to handle expansion. If anything, it's more likely now than it was last week that you'll be able to enjoy a Breakfast Stout when you're 75. That's something I'm excited about!

Nobody would've cared if they had chosen an investment bank instead of a brewer, but the difference is that private equity firms are purely shareholder focused and don't know or care about brewing, they only want to increase profits. In addition, they look to turn over their investments every 7 years, so there is the possibility that the ownership stake in Founders (or any other brewery) would be sold to the highest bidder, giving Founders even less control over its future.

Expect to see a lot more of these deals coming down over the next several years. Pray that more breweries choose a brewing partner over an equity firm.

I don't believer this is the case so I wouldn't worry about it. OH is getting CBS kegs in late January / early February. There will be many events throughout the state. Jungle Jim's in Cinci has already confirmed CBS kegs for their Febuary Barrel Aged fest. CLE will have several events. I don't know the specific # of kegs for Cbus, but you should get a few at the very least and I highly doubt you get them in June! Cheers!

Well I never heard back from Founders on this. The store in question is Main Street Party Store in Ann Arbor. This is a pretty shady deal, and certainly leaves a bad taste in my mouth about the store and the distributer. Their location is convenient for me and selection is fairly good, but with their high prices and general poor customer service, I won't be going in there very often anymore.

Feel free to ask them when they'll tap that bad boy!

Damn dood! You missed your opportunity to place that keg under citizens arrest and do a formal tasting.....I mean testing, of its contents.
If its contraband, its not really there, is it?
Next time just dial 999 for the beer police and I'll have three guys there to wheel that sucker out and to the Author. ...I mean Authorities!
