I'll be flying into Philly in April to visit my brother and drive up to my college buddy's wedding in Hershey. Looking at seekabrew, it looks like CCB and RR have limited distribution in PA. Anyone know what the extent of that distro is? Would I be able to find Pliny or Zhukov on tap? I assume Limited suggests that they don't ship bottles out/up there- would that be correct? I hope I'm wrong because I would thoroughly enjoy bringing home a six-pack of Jai Alai..
You should be able to find Jai Alai, though I'm not sure *how* available it is. As for RR, they send bottles of the sours and Damnation. Pliny is draft only, and while it's not exactly common, it's not rare either...if that makes sense. Keep your eye on PhillyTapFinder.com to see where it is
Thanks for the tip on PhillyTapFinder.. I'll definitely use that. I used to frequent Monk's and Local 44- my brew of choice was DFH 90 minute- when I was at Penn 6 years ago but I didn't really appreciate good beer at the level of a BA so I'm looking forward to returning. Getting my hands on some fresh DFH will be nice as well (not distributed in WI).
Just noticed you said you'll be in Hershey for a little bit too...I live in Harrisburg, and I've seen Jai Alai around here. Shouldn't be *too* much of an issue....I've also seen cans at some bars in the Philly area, not sure how wide the retail distro is though
You can usually find at least a few bars in the city serving Pliny the Elder on tap. The last few times I've been to Monks they have had it and blind pig. Bottles of their sours are fairly easy to find too but they can get pretty expensive at some places.
Jai Alai is all over the place right now. You can find fresh cans at Hawthornes or Beer Heaven. Plus $40 cases at Bella Vista if you like it that much (I do). It's the only CCB brew that is widely available in Philly right now.
if you poke around the bottle shops (beer heaven, food and friends, foodery, the bottle shop, hawthornes), you might be able to find some of the larger format CCB beers. the pricing forces some things to linger longer than they usually would.
