It’s Growler Chooseday! El Catador Club Members will be choosing the treatment ingredients for 5 different beers. All 5 treated beers will then be available on Growler Tuesday, May 17th during American Craft Beer Week.

Voting is still taking place for the 5th beer but here is what the El Catador members have chosen so far (note: CCB listed a different beer each day and El Cat members voted on the treatment ingredients):

Beer 1: Tampa-style Lager treated with Lime Zest and Cherry
Beer 2: Maduro Brown Ale treated with Hazelnuts and Ivory Coast Cacao Nibs
Beer 3: Jai Alai treated with Peach and Rum-Soaked Oak
Beer 4: Saison No More Belgian-style Farmhouse Ale treated with Mango and Tequila-soaked Oak
Beer 5: Marshal Zhukov (voting still underway)

Havent been impressed with soaked oak added to a beer. Might work in the Jai alai and Saison but the Zhukov idk. They should do a Coconut/Hazelnut Zhukov

Out of all those only the Maduro sounds any good. Peach Jai Alai is awful on its own, don't see what adding soaked oak is gonna do to change that.

I'm not a coconut fan really but for those that are the Zhukov will probably be great too

I think you are in a minority in regards to the Peach Jai Alai. the White oak version is my favorite treatment, having had it a dozen or so times at tap takeovers over the past year.

Agreed. Peach White Oak Jai Alai is one of my favorite beers.

I think it really depends on the beer/treatment. I think (historically) a good amount of them have turned out pretty well for CCB. The Apple Brandy Cow Boss that they did a while back for growler tuesday was great. Cuvee De Fromm #4 (Blend of Zhukov, Cherry Cordial, and Winter Warmer all aged on bourbon-soaked oak) was amazing. I haven't had it but Cuvee De Fromm #8 (2/3rds Big Sound Scotch Ale, 1/3 Warmer Winter Winter Warmer and was aged on coffee and cognac soaked oak) was very well received. And the soaked-oak Hunahpu treatments during Hunahpu Day this year were great. And the "pilot" batch of Maple Cognac Endless Nameless (Endless Nameless base beer treated with cognac soaked maple) was a million times better than the El Cat Endless Nameless that they released.

Some of these sound good but you know there's gonna be a stupid line and they aren't going to make any more than the normal batch size. Good luck to all of you who are gonna go!

I'm shocked to hear people like peach Jai Alai. Haven't had the white oak variant but the treatment on plain ol Jai Alai is so over the top peach candyish for my tastes.

They did the rum soaked white oak peach jai alai once before and it was one of my favorite growler treatments to date. The white oak cuts some of the peach sweetness and the rum adds a tropical note.

The others are worth a try but agree they have to figure out how to deal with the line. Pre filled crowlers out of the fermentation would make the most sense

I figured they will at least do a standard size Growler Tuesday batch for each one (if not more) and while there may be more people than usual, not everyone is going to get all 5 offerings. I'm sure the Bourbon Coconut Zhukov will go fast.

Well everyone's tastes are different. You seem to be in the minority though. If you look at the reviews/ratings on BA and Untappd, Peach Jai Alai is rated nearly exactly the same as regular Jai Alai.

On BA: Jai Alai is a 4.2 and Peach Jai Alai is a 4.27
On Untappd: Jai Alai is a 4.03 and Peach Jai Alai is a 4.03

For Peach White Oak, it's not even close. People really rate it much higher than regular Jai Alai

On BA: Jai Alai is a 4.2 and Peach White Oak is 4.67
On Untappd: Jai Alai is a 4.03 and Peach White Oak is a 4.21

I will say that there are rather mixed reviews from the previous times they have done Rum and Peach treatments of Jai Alai. As Lapalou mentioned, they did a Rum White Oak Peach for growler Tuesday last summer and it is very well review on both BA (4.84 although there are only 5 ratings) and Untappd (4.33). They also did a Rum Oak Peach on cask back last May that was not as well received but I think that might be because of the cask. IPAs on cask is not a very popular thing
