Anybody attempt this with any hint of success? I just love how thick it is and I would like to duplicate that if I can. Thanks for the help/suggestions!
Tastes like a huge amount of 500L roasted barley (or black patent), borderline acrid to me. Certainly some dark crystal malt too. If the numbers they provide on the sebsite are accurate it finishes around 1.044. Flaked rye is great for boosting body as well. If you haven't already, try emailing the brewery to get some hints. Good luck!
I wouldn't be surprised if this beer had a bunch of flaked rye and/or oats. 1.044 is pretty massive, I think it would be kinda hard to keep this beer from being cloying. I'd be curious if the brewery gives you any insight as to what the recipe for MZ is.
Give it a try with an email to Wayne. He's been pretty helpful for me when I've contacted him in the past...he didn't provide a straight up recipe, but he gave me detailed notes about what type of white oak spirals they use for the white oak jai alai, how long to age, temperatures, how much to use, etc. Took him a little while to get back to me, but when he did, he definitely dropped some knowledge.
