I know, I know another Celebration thread. So my local SN dealer in Central PA got their shipment in this week. I picked my case up today, got it home and realized the bottling date was September 26th, 2012. Based on what I'm reading in the forums, Celebration is just now hitting shelves in most of the country. There are no "new" reviews of the this beer that would indicate that it was released elsewhere in early October. So what gives? Why am I getting "fresh" Celebration that's almost 6 weeks old at this point?

You live in PA. They probably brewed batches of it early and shipped it over to the East coast to try and match release dates for the West coast.

What does it taste like? That is the only thing that matters.

My bottles here in TX had the same 9/26 bottling date. Tasted fine though!

14 days of bottle conditioning at the brewery, before it's shipped.

Not to mention the week or so it takes to get to the east coast and on the shelves

Most breweries this would be a bad sign, but SN know what they're doing. They've probably invested more money into their packaging research and quality consistency than any other craft brewery. Their product has a stable shelf life that far exceeds most other brands. Yeah I wish my celebration was a week old vs six, but for SN I can comfortably let this slide.

Yep. Celebration is not one of those IPAs that nose dives in a few weeks. It doesn't really change at all through the holidays, and some say that it stands up longer than that. I don't know, mine have never made it past New Years.

Take two bottles, stick them in the bottom and back of the fridge, wait until 4th of July, and enjoy your experiment.

Pretty sure SN puts a 150 day expiration date on most of their beer, longer for stuff like Bigfoot. They don't claim the IPA will have the same hop character that long into its lifespan, but apparently they're confident that the average consumer will still enjoy their product up to 5 months after bottling.

By "some magic", you mean "invested lots of money in their bottling line", then yes, it's magic!

I just tried to pick up a case of Celebration yesterday (Friday) from my local distributor here in PA who is very BIG and even though they had it in stock, they're not allowed to sell it until this Friday because of distribution rights/regulations. What's up with that? Great for you that you could get it, I have to wait another week. (!!!!)

On September 10th I was literally standing in a hop yard in Yakima watching as some of the hops for Celebration Ale were picked. Add to that the two weeks for brewing 14 days for bottle conditioning, the week or so for shipping and I'd say your beer is about as fresh as it's going to be at this point!

We don't brew Celebration in one big chunk. We brew it over and over again from the first delivery of this year's hops until about December when the last of the orders come in. There will be more. Soon. Check back early and often!
