Are doppelbocks a good style to cellar? I haven't heard a lot about people aging doppelbocks. Should I just do the smart thing and drink fresh? I only have 1 bottle.

Doppelbocks can be aged, but in my mind they're a style that doesn't really improve as they're generally pretty well balanced and set-up from the start. The Trögenator is a little hoppy, and maybe you'd like it softened a bit, and it is inexpensive, so why not give it a shot? On the other hand, I don't really suggest aging beers at all, so maybe drinking it fresh is best. Another thing to note is that I feel you should never cellar a single beer as you have no reference to work against. What is the point if you can't compare it to what you've had in the past? That's the fun of aging, opening a bottle every year and seeing where it's gone.

Thanks for the detailed response. Definitely just going to drink this one fresh. Wasn't sure how doppelbocks faired with a year or two on them. And I totally agree with your point on not aging unless you've had it fresh, I was only able to get a single though. I just like to keep nice bottles on hand for special occasions.
