I have a basement with pretty solid conditions to cellar beer. The problems are windows that shed some light and lots of chaos and commotion. Even if I set aside a safe location, family may forget as they are digging out Xmas ornaments and knock items over. For the time being, I only plan to cellar a few beers until I find out if I really like it. Would it be ok to put a few beers in a soft-walled cooler? I figure it will protect the beers, plus lock out light. Any cons? Would zipping it up create some unwanted humility levels?

Only if you planned on bragging about it, and then begrudgingly thought better of it.

Oh, humidity levels - that seems a bit more relevant. I would think that a soft side cooler isn't going to be so air tight that the humidity would be any higher than that of the ambient space.

By the way - welcome to BA! Please don't allow my tongue in cheek joking to spoil your visit on what's otherwise a terrific site full of knowledge.....and sometimes whimsy..

I've been a member of many different forums (athletic, financial, hobbies...). It is always good to toss in some joking! Thanks for the typo correction and the feedback. I am new to cellaring but am really excited about it!

don't do it, odds are good you'll end up with stupid amounts of cash sitting in the basement in liquid form before a year goes by...
