Not sure if this has been covered, I searched and didn't see much about this. My question is when i look at most people's cellar lists, am I looking at beers they willing to trade or what they are hoarding for themselves. Is it cool to mark beers 'not tradable unless you offer BVDL '09' or some such. I definetly have a few beers that I would not trade except in an amazing trade (because I want to drink them not because I call them my precious...lol). Do I leave those beers off a list I post?
I made two lists. One is my entire cellar (for me to keep track) and the other is a list of beers that I would be willing to trade (to send to people who ask, paste in an ISO:FT, etc). To make my trading list, I took my cellar list and removed all of the Loons and 3F stuff. Simple.
I agree with Oaked, I would suggest making two lists if you're planning to have a public list. Nothing more annoying than when someone says "Pick from my cellar diz-awg!!!!" and then when you do, they tell you that they're not interested in trading that particular beer.
This is so true. I made a spreadsheet and put a trade column with either, Y, N, or ?. I have traded some that were designated as N because the offer for that beer was too good to pass up. When i update my cellar again it will consist of Y and ?. I have yet to acquire a beer that is not for trade if the right offer comes through. Just my 2cents.
I'm with Oaked as well. I've tried putting asterisks next to beer, putting not for trade next to them, simply mentioning in the post not to ask for X and Y.... but at the end of the day I find that if i post an open cellar list the only response i get are for the two beers I dont want to trade. Beyond that, the reason I stopped posting FT cellar link is not because I wont trade everything for the right beer (expect the two beers I already mentioned) but because its easier to list what I will trade for certain beers. Im not throwing loons at a pliny trade and if I post an open cellar link thats all people seem to see. Eventually Ive realize I have better luck just posting 4 or 5 beers that seem on par and letting people pick from less (posting a 20+ list for trade seems to always net less BM's than posting a list of 5 beers for the same ISOs).
I can't possibly show my entire collection cellar. Your simple minds couldn't possibly handle it and the entire trading forums would go down like the stock market in '29.
