    Hi,
I was curious if it is better to lay down bottles that are corked to keep the cork moist? Also, does beer contact degrade corks or caps? Any info/experiences/opinions would help. I appologize if this has already been covered in another thread and I would appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction.
    Cheers!

This topic comes up probably about 12 times a day on this forum and it seems that the best response is do what ever you feel is correct. There's not enough information to disprove one or the other, or at least that's what I've gathered. I personally stand up pretty much everything except for my labics and gueuze that I plan on cellaring for more than a couple years. Just look through the cellaring forum pages and you should find more info. Cheers!

Thanks guys. I had a feeling that this had come up but was too lazy to look! I did have a corked bottle where the cork had dried up a little and seemed to let the carbonation out, but that was after about 2 years or so. Anyways, thanks again!
    Cheers

That definitely happens, but laying the bottle on its side won't prevent it as a lot of cork is exposed and is dried out from the outside. The only way to prevent that kind of cork degredation is to keep your bottles in an area with more humidity or cover the cork with wax. Beeswax does the job fine, I've been told.
