Please forgive me as I'm sure this topic has been covered many times. However this one is specific:
I have a Founders Imperial Stout that is about 17 months after bottle date. Anyone ever have one of these with that much age? How was it? Would anyone hold it longer to see how it ages further?

Secondly, I have a KBS that is a bit over a year old. I've had one with about 9 months on it and personally, I feel it's better at that age than fresh. Would you think there's a "limit" on how long a KBS would be at it's optimal before going downhill?

    Thanks! And cheers...

ive had 6 year old KBS and it was a smooth and amazing beer but it didnt taste much like KBS. FIS seems to be better fresh but it wouldnt hurt to age it and find out for yourself.

I had a 2 or 3 year old KBS.....didn't taste bad at all.To be honest I wish It would of been fresher so there would of been more bourbon.

A have a fis with the same age on it. Since a bought a case this year, I'm letting that one go til next years release and then can do a 3 year vertical. Maybe with all the ones I've bought this year I'll let one go a while longer but I doubt it'll really get any better after 2 years and will really just eventually decline into soy sauce.

Can't really help you on the kbs front as this is my first year actually getting it but with coffee in it, I personally wouldn't go past a year as it'll just get further and further away from the taste of what it's supposed to be.

But I fully disagree with the post that fis is best fresh (for my personal taste) as the ibus take a back seat and the fudgy chocolate and coffee notes start to explode around that time. It goes from really good to world class at that point.

I have had several more than 2 yrs old. Thought it improved. Wasnt one of my favorite RIS anyway. I find it similar to Bell's Expedition. Really dont care for that one at all right out of the chute. Off subject, but I think Siberian Night is better either way.

OP, I've had FIS that was over a year old and it was just as good, if not better. FIS ages with the best of them IMO.

FIS is tasty two years in. I had one that was I think three years and it seemed to be past that point. KBS i prefer fresh but I've had some with a year and i felt it faded too much for my liking. Hope this helps.

I had a kbs in feb from 2011 and it is still an amazing beer. I disagree with the whole drink it now idea. It ages well
