I tried this again the other night, and -- for me -- the alcohol steamrolled the coffee and vanilla flavors. How long would I need to hold onto a bottle for it to mellow? Would it? Velvet Merkin was 8.5% ABV, and it tasted sooo smooth. Why does 10% kick my palate's ass?

I've had good results with this. I had one in the cellar for a couple of years and the coffee mellowed a bit and the vanilla became more pronounced. ABV noticeable but not over the top.

I really like the level of vanilla when fresh. aged, it's almost too much vanilla for me...

Guess i should have cellared mine cuz after sitting on it a month it tasted almost purely of espresso with a slight hint of vanilla

I had a very fresh bottle a couple weeks ago, got little to no alcohol in the taste. Maybe a bit when it warmed but it was very well hidden imo.

Has anyone else noticed the expiration date on V@Sea bottles?

I had a 2011 this past weekend. Coffee minimal, vanilla much more pronounced. not boozy…at least for my palate.

Yes, I have one with a 2013 expiration date. Anyone know when that could have been bottled?

I had a 3yr old bottle a few months back and it was fantastic, much better than fresh IMO.

I had the opposite effect from a V@Sea 3 months past the expiration date. No life left in it. I don't think a brewery would put an expiration date on a beer that would benefit from aging.

i purchased 2 bottles several weeks ago & now unable to find it anywhere (a bit disappointed as I went to my local a few weeks ago as well & had about 15 bottles)

now I'm left with 1 in the fridge, anticipating When I am going to devour it.

ive recently tasted bottles from 2009, 2010, and 2011, and they all taste slightly less coffee-ish the longer they sit, but still equally as delish. i personally cant drink the new 2013 batch cuz its waaaay too much coffee.
