Cellaring in an apartment?

    Usually around 60-65. And a buddy who works in the industry and has been cellaring for years.

    60-65 isn't too bad and should be fine. I don't think having it in a cooler rather than a box would do much for you though unless you have insane temperature swings which I doubt.

    Well in the off chance that it gets warmer than expected here in San Diego, they're in the cooler. We must protect the beer!

    This is anecdotal, so take it for what you will, but I stored cases of aging-appropriate beers in my closet in my apartment for years, and have yet to have a bad bottle....even Bells Expedition at 5 years, and World Wide Stout at 6-7 years. I kept them in case boxes, under some towels, and pretty much left 'em alone. Doing the same thing in my house now, upstairs hall closet, temps next leave the 65-75 range. Have yet to pull a bad bottle.

    Planning to try 10+ years on a few things (Black Tuesday, couple gueuzes, World Wide Stout), those go in the bottom drawer of the beer fridge.

    I would imagine you could spare the room for 4 12oz bottles in your fridge. If not, put them in a vacuum seal bag and bury those fuckers 3ft deep. At that depth, ground is the most consistant place behind a fridge. Just dig them up in October or so, and by then you can use the cold temperature to your advantage for storage location. Come March, dig another hole.
    Another option is water. If you vacuum bag them, put em in a 5 gal bucket filled with water,with something to weigh them down and a lid. Drop 10 ice cubes in there every week or so if its gonna get hot. It takes longer sustained high temps to bring 5gal of H2O up to temperature when its in a dark closet. Personally, I would just drink em.

    I live in an apt in LA with only a wall unit AC so the closets get pretty warm (mid 80s) in the summer. I bought an Avanti wine cooler on amazon for about $100. The one with a vertical rack. I took the rack out and can easily fit 8 22oz bottles verticle and 4 horizontal. It works pretty good and hovers in the low 60s in the summer and right at 55 in the winter. It also looks really nice next to the bar. Would recommend.

    I'm too lazy to read all of the prior posts, but those temps are fine. Frankly, it's ok if it gets up to 80 as long as it's not for an extended period.

    I say that from personal experience. Just this week I opened my Westy 12 that I got in a trade in 2012. It was cellared in a box in my college apartment, then transported 300+ miles to my first apartment and continued to be cellared in said cardboard box. When I bought my house last year, that same Westy made the journey and landed in my cellar cabinet that lies on the exterior pour concrete wall of my house. In the summer, it gets into the mid 70's in the cabinet and in the winter it dips as low as the high 50's. When I opened it Thursday night, it was amazing. Cellaring is so much more about keeping light out and preventing harsh temperature swings than specific temperature ranges.

    Also, next time search for a similar thread. This is literally a topic that is brought up once a week.
