(San Francisco,CA) – Cellarmaker Brewing of San Francisco, California has announced that they will begin bottling hoppy beer. Cellarmaker is a small 10bbl brewery with a tasting room component where most of the beer is sold direct to consumer for on-site consumption or in growlers to-go. All off-site distribution to this point has solely been draft.

“Bottled hoppy beer is a huge point of contention amongst many brewers and drinkers. Since before we opened our doors we have struggled to figure out the logistics behind getting delicious and fresh bottled hoppy beer into the hands of consumers. By minimizing the quantity of bottles per bottling run, we are consciously making an effort to not overwhelm the marketplace and to not fight for shelf space. It is our intention to sell the majority (if not all) of the bottles direct to consumer via the tasting room. What we want is to make our product more accessible without creating a state of oversaturation.

Bottles will be date stamped (month-day-year format) and drinkers will be encouraged to consume within 21 days of bottling. In our opinion these hoppy beers change in flavor very quickly. If you’re drinking this beer any later than 21 days from its bottling date, you’re not drinking the beer as it was intended. Bottles will be stored cold until they are sold. From that point on it is in the hands of the consumer to keep the beer cold and to consume fresh.

We look forward to releasing “Dank Williams,” one of our favorite Double IPAs, on Tuesday, March 10th. The beer will be bottled early in the morning and will be available for purchase starting at 2pm. Bottle limits of 6 per person will apply. You can expect to see a new bottled release from us each month for as long as we feel this system is working. Let’s have some fun with this.”

When I heard about this, I was almost positive they would bottle anything BUT the hoppy beers.

Interesting, very interesting. Since I don't make it the their tasting room often, it will really not change my drinking of their beers which is draft at Bay Area craft bars.

Probably my favorite brewery in the Bay Area at the moment. Had their Yolo Once IPA a couple of weeks ago and just continued to be impressed with every beer that I try from them.

    Great news.

Cellarmaker makes some of best hoppy beers on the West Coast. I need to make my way back up there again.

Still sounds like very limited distro though so that is a bummer.

I doubt they sell any outside of the tasting room, but they did leave open the possibility with the "if not all" in their statement. We'll see how it goes. I can't get there until around 6pm on weekdays, which probably means they'll be gone by then given the fact the place is usually full withing 15 minutes of opening, but I'm still intrigued. Maybe I'll find an excuse to WFH on days of future releases.

    Fuck yes!

I was already planning a visit to the taproom soon, this simply sweetens the pot.

Man, I hope they bottle other styles too. I love their saisons and the imperial coffee and cigarettes porter was freakin awesome.

What I can tell you is that some of the beer bars that carry Cellarmaker on tap, will also have bottles.

Considering it'll be roughly once a month, they'll probably all be strong IPAs from their Dank Series: Highway to the Danker Zone, Are you Afraid of the Dank, Dank Statement, etc. Probably all around $10 per bottle. Can't imagine them bottling some one-off pale or something, considering how quickly those other beers go from the taproom.
