Hi everyone on the Central Coast! I am trying to find a place to purchase bottles that has a good selection and well kept/rotated beers. Where does everybody get their beer around here? A lot of the shops I have been to have old stuff on the shelves that are not kept cold or out of harsh lights. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
I can't speak on places that have great rotation as that varies beer to beer at most places. The best bottle shops at least in SLO county would be California Fresh in Pismo, Lincoln Market in SLO, Sandy's Liquor or Campus Bottle in SLO usually have decent stuff, in Atascadero El Camino Liquor, IN Paso the Albertson's there is solid along with Eagle Energy on Golden Hill Road. On Premise places that have good-great selection would be Hot Shots in Pismo, Luis Wine Bar in SLO, Dunbar Brewing in Santa Margarita. Course the BevMo's have most stuff that gets distro around here, but alot on shelves. For IPA's you just gotta now either when a seasonal release is just released or check the bottle dates on the yearly selections if possible. The Von's in Atascadero has a good rotation of Union Jack usually as I often get 6 packs there enough to help deplenish stock and keep new stuff coming in
As someone who grew up in SLO but lives in they Bay now, it is somewhat shocking that there still isn't a really good bottle shop in SLO proper. California Fresh is the best place I've come across in the county by far.
How about SB?! I'm up here this weekend and only know of Lazy Acres and WF. Would appreciate any suggestions.
Thank you guys for the recommendations! I stopped by Campus bottle shop and found that they have some good selection on Vintage FW and they gave me a deal for buying multiple bottles. I also stopped by the Fresh Market in Pismo and was impressed by the selection of craft beer they had. It was awesome to finally find a couple of places that will be able to provide some more difficult to find beers!
What constitutes the central coast? I've always been confused as to what point it stops being considered Southern California. Is it everything sandwiched between Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara?
I live in San Luis Obispo. According to the people here, the Central Coast consists of SLO and its surrounding areas (Pismo/5 Cities, Santa Maria, Nipomo, Morro Bay, Los Osos, Atascadero, Paso Robles, Cambria, Cayucos). I also have an office in Monterey and the people up there consider that to be the Central Coast as well. I think that it all depends on where you live, but it probably is safe to say that anything between Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz is fair game.
