I'm taking a quick trip up the coast with my kids (6 &4) from LA. We will be doing two nights in Paso Robles and two nights in Los Osos. I've been to FW/Barrelworks but it's been awhile. Our first stop might be lunch somewhere between Santa Barbara and SLO depending on when we actually leave LA.

Any recs for places to eat with good tap lists? Is Libertine Pub an ok place to bring kids?

I've been reading the old post about spots to visit and it seems that Barrelhouse is cool (no food though) and Dunbar. Anything else new pop up?

Also any hombrewers know a good spot to buy honey by the gallon for some mead?

I was just up at Libertine with my wife and 1.5 year old. We were there for lunch and it was great. A light crowd (I suspect the evenings could get crowded) and they were very accomodating for our son...we ordered off the menu and asked for an extra plate so we could share. We also asked for a water for our son and they brought it out all kid legit with a top and straw  Besides all this, the view was perfect, the food was great, and the beer was excellent. Definitely try it out!

Cambria Brewing Company is very family friendly. Free homemade root beer for the kiddies and plenty of board games!

Restaurant section of Libertine is fine for kids but not somewhere they will want to hang for very long.

No eatin' spots with good taps jumping out at me, I'll come back if I think of something.... there's a decent pizza place in downtown Morro Bay that I think had a few decent beers.

Firestone has the taproom restaurant and kids are allowed there and the visitor center, but there isn't anything for them to do there. Barrelhouse is a nice outside venue that works well, beer is ok and getting better the last time i was there. You can bring outside food(sandwiches, etc) to eat out there. Unfortunately we can't allow kids at Dunbar but if you get away we have great selection of beers. Hot Shots in Pismo has a real nice tap list and is a pool hall with some video games if that could keep your kids occupied for a bit. Have not had the food there but there is also lots of places nearby to eat including Boardroom pub. In SLO Laguna Grill and Eureka Burger would have your best food/tap option....Firestone Grill in downtown SLO has the best tri-tip sandwich and fries and usually fresh Union Jack on tap. If you get time check out Central Coast brewing, No food and not really kid friendly, but beers are all very solid now

Pick up bottles and go camping in Big Sur with the kids. Firestone will be around when they are older and can appreciate it more. I think most kids (and some wives) will be bored in a room filled with noise. Was at Firestone PR last week and the restaurant/bar was very noisy. Was at a different brewery a few months ago and a young couple brought their young infant and she or he was crying for almost 15 minutes before the dude took it outside. NOt fun. If you do go, get a booth. Its a little better.

Thanks for all the help. We actually are going camping on this trip so I'll definitely pick some bottles before that.

Sometimes the hardest partt about planning a trip is figuring out where to eat so I try to at least make sure the place has good beer.

Firestone's food menu is pretty good. A lot better than Stone, IMO. They also have 2012 Parobala on tap (as of last week) for a 4oz glass I think was $6. Also had a glass of Hammersmith IPA (brewery only).
Maybe I'm an old fart who believes that kids shouldn't be in a place where they shouldn't be. At least when they are too young to know whats going on. There are a lot of young couples these days that are getting into the whole craft thing. Which is great. I'm glad my boys and girl are older now that I only have to drag the wife with me to these craft pubs and brewery's.
    Enjoy your trip!

funny.. i just booked two nights in los osos and two nights in paso robles.. we do this often. for food i'd say don't miss Los Agaves in SB, but there's very limited craft beer. All about the food. Does anyone know if Telegraph has a tasting room? I'd like to stop.

If you need any wine recos, come at me.. that's why you're going to Paso I hope.

when going between paso and the ocean, consider a super scenic fund rive... it runs paralel to 46 called Santa Rosa Creek Road and is just gorgeous.. up and down, left and right, mountains, valleys, forests etc... and you end up at Linn's farm store which makes sick pies (olallieberry!)
