A Well Forged Sword - Imperial Stout w/ oranges

    Saturday, January 28th at 12pm

"We're releasing our collaboration with Green Bench Brewing from St. Petersburg, Florida. When we decided what to brew, we figured a 13% stout was the last thing that would be expected. So, we brewed that.

A Well Forged Sword will be sold in 16oz can format for $15 per 2-pack. We will determine limits as we get closer to the event."

Anyone else going to this release? Should be a good time. Plus, they are donating $1 from every pint of Table & Garden to a different charity each month, which is pretty awesome. From The Koelschip's FB page:

"Earlier this week, Bryan Roth of the fantastic blog, This is Why I’m Drunk, wrote a post asking, “Do you want politics in your beer?” Bryan mentioned Central State Brewing in the article and we appreciate being included. In response, on my personal twitter, I posted the following:

“We make an active choice to voice our beliefs. I would rather fail knowing that we put it all on the line than pander for success.”

So, that’s exactly what we’re going to do. As we watch the world shift very quickly before our eyes, we see some causes that we hold near and dear losing funding.

How? Effective immediately, and retroactive to 1/1/2017, we will donate $1 for every draft pour of Table and Garden sold at The Koelschip to a local charity or the local branch of a national charity and/or advocacy group. On a monthly basis, we will total the sales and we will send a check to two different groups (assuming they accept money from bars).

We will post the names of the groups clearly on the front chalkboard so that you are aware where the money is going and are able to choose your support accordingly. We are not here to trick you into supporting a group that you do not want to support. That’s not the point.

We built CSB and Koelschip (and will continue to build new projects) in Indianapolis because Indianapolis is our home. Indianapolis is our community. Indianapolis is our core of friends, family, and extended family. If national funding is at risk, it is time for local to take care of local.

    The first two groups:
    Table: ACLU
    Garden: Planned Parenthood"

The Raznarok is very tasty. Though, the BA Gute Nacht is amazing! You won't be disappointed.

I was down in Indy about a week or so ago. I stopped at a bunch of places (Sun King's Small Batch, Upland, etc), but The Koelschip was awesome. Central State's making some of the best beers in Indiana right now.

It'll be a case limit on both beers, for anyone that was curious.

The BA Gute Nacht and Raznarok were very tasty. Left with a bit of both. Really liked the Springdale I had on draft yesterday too.

    Frugal Ginger
    - Bourbon Barrel Aged Farmhouse Red w/ Ginger

"This will be the first bottle release from the new Central State Brewing R&D bottle series. Each 500ml bottle of "Frugal Ginger" will be $10 each.

    About Frugal Ginger:

Our good friend Pete the Planner suggested a beer name to us a while back and challenged us to come up with a beer to fit it. From that "Frugal Ginger" was born. This farmhouse ale was aged for 10 months in Kentucky Bourbon Barrels we got from our good friends Crown Liquors and then we added a bunch of fresh ginger to each barrel. Notes of vanilla and oak from the barrels combine with the pepper and biscuit notes from the beer layered with a spicey ginger kick. This beer is decadent and anything but frugal in flavor!"

Friday & Saturday, February 16th-17th at noon

Most Humble Ever (Other Half collab) - Dry-hopped Saison w/ Citra, Mandarina, Hallertau Blanc

"When approaching a collab with our friends at Other Half Brewing we wanted to combine the things we loved about each other's breweries. We crafted this beer as a result. Funky and dry thanks to Central States yeast cultures. Yet lush and hoppy from the use of lots of flaked oats and a healthy dose of Citra, Mandarina, and Blanc dry hops from the Other Half side. This beer is humble and proud at the same time."

Friday, March 2nd at noon at The Koelschip

New Money - New England-style IPA w/ CSB House Clean IPA Yeast and Mosaic, Hull Melon, Simcoe hops

New Money vs. Old Money. A Rivalry that spans the ages. The Old guard holding onto tradition. The new kids trying to break down walls and redefine norms. This beer is firmly planted in the new. Brewed using the first batch of malted oats ever produced in Indiana and aggressively dry-hopped with Mosaic, Hull Melon, and Simcoe hops this beer is anything but old school.

Cryo Haze (Untitled Art collab) - New England-style IPA w/ Citra & Galaxy hops and dry hopped w/ Mosaic Cryo hops

Brewed with our homies up in Madison, Wisconsin, this hazy IPA was brewed with Citra and Galaxy in the whirlpool and a silly amount of Mosaic Cryo hops in the dry hop.

Either of these left or on tap at The Koelschip today? My buddy is coming down for The Musical Box (Genesis cover show) and I wanted to make sure he had some good hazy beers to keep hydrated. We're already going to Rock Bottom to get the Double Maui Wowie. But outside of Rock Bottom, nobody is making too much noise with that style in the downtown area.

I haven't been there today, however a friend told me there was still quite a bit left 4pk wise. I'm sure it's still on tap too. It's pretty tasty, so if there's none left on tap somehow, I'd recommend at least grabbing a 4pk or two.

I hope those will see distribution. I really enjoy Oatsplosion, so I'm curious to try NEIPA offerings from Central State with a clean yeast instead of their house brett.

AFAIK, just about everything they release sees distribution (at least, within Indiana). So far, Future Shock has seen distribution and I'm sure New Money will pop up around town too.

We made it to Central State and had a few. New Money was pretty good. I got a glass of Bare Hands: Joe England and we both agreed it tasted watered down. Same with Cryo Haze. Not sure if it was palate fatigue but it kind of set the stage for the rest of the day. Had a Bare Hands: Drain The Swamp at Hopcat and thought it was watery. Ended up at Rock Bottom and felt the same about the Double Maui Wowie. Loved the Tone It Down I had a few weeks ago but felt the Maui was lacking flavor. Think I just need to take a break for a bit.

As of yesterday, there were still cans of New $, CryoHaze and Most Humble Ever. New $ was on draft. Red Circle- the collab with Elm Street is a gose with ketchup. Craziest beer I had in a long time.
All the Harry Potter fans are going nuts for Polyjuice potion. They are out of cans, was still on draft yesterday.
