I find that it is not hoppy what so ever, they actually age it for a year at the brewery before they let the bottles go. I have never once had a drink and thought of a DIPA like I have with NG Barleywine and SN Bigfoot. But everyone has a different palate. I will be having a bottle of it this weekend and it will be my first of this years batch so we will see if it is hoppier then the past.

Just looked at my review and was surprised by the citrus and said it had some bitterness. Probably mis spoke on the dipa part it would seem.

I think one think I like better about the BBBW, is that it inherently has age on it. I think Y2K is outstanding and deserves more credit like it's BA brother. However, it does drink a little hot out the box. If I was CW, I'd just store this stuff and charge a little more for the logistics of storing. It is truly as good, but just different.

It is actually aged one year at the brewery before they release it.

I did see the Y2K on tap at Poor Phil's in Oak Park, but they had FW 16 on tap at the same time, so I opted for that...

A couple months ago I had a barley wine tasting that included 2007 and 2011 y2k and a year old bottle of cw bbbw. All of them were really good but the 2007 y2k was really something special. The bbbw was good but my least favorite. It had a bit of a tannic harshness to it. Really looking forward to trying the new batches.

I was lucky enough to try an 05 or 06 y2k last month. it was deeeeelicious. Unlike the infected y2k we had from 09/10ish...

Absolutely agree. Y2k is my favorite Barleywine and IMO more complex then its barrel aged version. The barrel kind of over powers some of the nuances in the flavor.
