I assume a 12 Dark Lord could pull one of these. I know the allotment was high, what about the price point?
http://beeradvocate.com/community/t...t-trades-what-will-it-take.20216/#post-243355 You'd assume wrong, my friend. If I recall correctly they were $10/bottle. As noted in the other thread, lots went to locals & non-traders, so there likely aren't many of the 1,000 bottles still floating around. And I know it's not polite to talk things other than rarity & price & bottles-per-person, but it's so damn delicious it's going to be tough to land at this point.
Really, really wish I coulda made it out to the anniversary party. I only have one bottle that I acquired without having to trade anything for, and after having it on tap during Milwaukee Beer Week, I really do not want to crack it open and not have any more of it.
Interesting. Seems like the release was the perfect storm: high allotment; low hype. Yall think FiftyFifty Imperial Eclipse EC 18 year would do it?
I think this one is going to come down to taste. It is one of the best beers I've had and I want to keep the 2 bottles I have left. A King Henry maaay pry 1 from me....but it's close. Good luck though, because it's a stunner.
I managed to find a King Henry at a Whole Foods (it was in the bomber cooler, lone one... next to a 2011 BCBS single oddly enough) and drank that on New Year's. It was damn good, but... I think I'd rather have the 1414.. Then again, I would really like to revisit THAT one again. Ah well.
Yeah. It's 3:1 $4$. In terms of quality, 1414 is better IMO. 1414 is as good as henry, and it was under the radar for quite a while.
agreed 1414 seems to trade for 3:1 in $4$ but more realistically, it'll take an in demand brewery only or limited release. the cost and bottle count seem to be rather meaningless for this one. having had it the other night, it was quite excellent...and reminded me a lot of 2011 BCBS with a bit more heat, but had that excellent balance right out of the gate. i didn't find it to be nearly as tasty as king henry (but then again apples to oranges as one is a BW and the other is a stout), but for a while it was trading as 1414+ local for KH and definitely a few 1 for 1 swaps were going down for KH. i got mine from a previous trade partner. initially the plan was to swap for a captain lawrence sour...he sent me a nice surprise box with lots of goodies so i'll be sending him a nice return box with lots of goodies and several varieties of capt lawrence sours. i would think that DL would not get it done, but maybe an older vintage? 18 eclipse was a better beer in my opinion and that sounds pretty fair to me (but then again, i got beaten up for thinking that southampton IRS was a fair swap), but as always you gotta find someone looking for what you've got and the eclipses seem to be more readily available. the only way to really find out is to put up an ISO.
I've never had the SHRIS before but I'd imagine that's close to fair assuming its the stout in the bottle haha. 1414 is easily 2012s best new beer that I have had so far
lol - getting the BRL in the IRS bottle is a treat in itself. not only do you get a BRL but the brewery will replace the IRS!!!! gotta agree that it is one of the better new beers of the year, i didn't think that 1414 would really live up to the hype and i do find it to be a bit over-hyped, but it is damn tasty. i was also pretty blown away by birth of tragedy and lagunitas sucks (although that was probably more 2011?)...oh yeah, and BRL and Uberliner were pretty solid (and Capt Lawrence is getting crazy with the sours too)! the more i dig into the memory banks, the more new great beers that are. 2012 was a great year for new beers and we are only halfway through, but yes 1414 is a definite highlight. anyone know when the rest of the batch comes out that they left in the barrels? is that next year's anniversary?
Te anniversary party. I'll be there and I'll be getting a full allotment to drink Damon and 1414 and birth and Henry are probably my four favorite beers of the past 12 moNths. Probably most everyone else's too lol.
Have you had the "experimental stout" that is going to be the base beer (I think?) for their 16th anniversary (I think it's for the 16th...)? Absolutely delicious.
No. Where do you get some? Free flowing at the brewery? What is it called? It's not satin solstice is it
Had it on tap at Burnheart's during Milwaukee Beer Week. It was just listed as "Experimental stout" and I believe the keg/cask was primed with molasses. IT WAS INCREDIBLE. The head lasted longer than the beer!
yeesh... that's not why you were "beaten up," but i'm loling at the expert way you've crammed both a statement of victimization and 1414 NEVAR FORGET into one sentence.
so this is your new BA Coton, huh? what's with all the calling out of victimization? victimization of what? trading beer? you can't be serious? this is a message board, people have discourse and don't always agree. what the heck are you even talking about with with cramming "a statement of victimization and 1414 nevar forget into one sentence?" what does that even mean? you are really pulling at straws on this one. i still don't get your fascination/obsession with me, it isn't like we are local so that we can share brews, but if you want to stalk my posts and then quote me with some non-sense campaign i'll take it as a compliment - or should i be scared that this is some sort of Single White Person obsession? and just so i can understand...you think that Southampton IRS isn't a fair swap, and that's why you are now on some sort of weird campaign about 1414? what happened to your avatar? going undercover eh? d'oh...i fed the troll!!!
Ummm. What? I never heard anything about this, whats the story? I did hear once the 1414 barrels were emptied they filled them with Y2K.... I should add that I heard this in my head, just now.
One barrel sits inside of the Eau Claire Fire House - if my memory serves, it's marked 1414-1. I think I would have liked your imaginary scenario better, however.
