Exactly! Not sure what happened there, even the brewery seemed surprised that it disappeared so quickly.

I'm pretty surprised that they'd put any time of 16 into distribution that wide, but after this past weekend's sales #'s I don't think they trust brewery-only releases to sell out quickly. I was surprised Black Gold lasted all day and BA Rye Chocolate Porter is still available. Probably easier for them to put it into distro, get the $$ for it, and be done with it.

It's tough to get people to drive 4-ish hours round trip for a few bottles of beer. I think Wisconsin-only distribution of 16 variants would be awesome.

Yeah, that was...not good. Never seen that from CW before; hopefully it's not the start of a trend.

Lots of good breweries getting distribution deals for NY- the craft scene there is exploding. It's like 4x the amount of growth of the entire state of Wisconsin in one city. Really tempting.

Oh, I'm happy to see CW get the additional exposure and business...just after all of the demand here in Wisconsin is met. :-)

Wife and I took our annual fall drive to see some fall foliage and just get out of the house. Figured if I'm going to be out driving I might as well have a destination so we headed to Central Waters...Still plenty of 16 and Rye Choc Porter left at the brewery so I left with a few bottles of each. Then took a short drive and hit O'so to try some sours on the way home...it was a good day! =)

Cracked open a bottle of the Rye Choc Porter today during the Packer game....man is that some tasty stuff. Huge aromas of chocolate on the nose and it's nice to see the rye notes aren't overpowering...subtle and delicious!

Ya as EliteDigger said, was able to pick up bottles of each (16 & Chocolate Porter) last Friday with bottles remaining!

It was bottled in 2011. I have one bottle left. I am looking forward to comparing it to the new bottling when it's released.

fellow wisconsinite here, how do you guys hear when they release the black gold? just word of mouth? FB? Twitter? or was this at one of their events?

2nd question. How do you find out what they have for sale at the brewery? I can't find it anywhere, and wouldn't mind picking up some more 17 if they really have it laying around still like they have in years past.

    Thanks in advance!

They have sold it twice, both times at their GABF (Great Amhurst Beer Festival) and River Run event in October.

First time it was sold in 12oz bottles. Second time it was 22oz.

Haha thanks a bunch! Figured I could try that, but maybe there was something easier and something I could do at work

Appreciate it, that was my educated guess as I saw that was around the time that this thread was back in October.

I was just at the brewery on Saturday...drove up specifically to buy Seventeen. You might want to call first, but they had plenty when I was up there. Cracked one open when I got home....goodness...easily worth the drive.

Ahh! I still need to get some 17, but don't feel like driving 4 hours.

Doesn't make it any easier when they are only open 2 days a week and not even a full 8 hours per day.

They are open for beers to go Monday thru Friday from 8-5, probably should email before driving 4 hours first though. You can't drink there but you can buy bottles or get growlers filled. I've done it a couple times on a Friday morning about 9am.
