It's really one of my pet peeves when breweries don't list the ABV. I think it is a responsible thing to do. Maybe its just me, but I almost always look at the ABV before I open the bottle. New Glarus never list the ABV and it bugs the hell out of me.

I could not agree more. If I'm going to have one beer & drive...I'd like to know if the beer is 12%. I wouldn't have that beer if so.

From their website both Peruvian Morning and Cassian Sunset available in 4 packs. Guess it will hit distro soon.

These aren't new vintages. They are just pulled out of the cellar from the last time these beers were released.

Two big reasons why they might not list ABV on the label that I can think of:

    1) if you list it, you're committing to a 0.3% allowed variance. For small brewers who can't get that sort of thing tested (expensive) it's a risky move.

    2) I'm not sure if this is exclusive to beer made in NY, which CW does distribute to, but it's actually against regulation to list ABV on beer labels. Every state has their own rules on it. Kind of a minefield

For the NY regulators, I mean why let anyone know that they are drinking high ABV beers. I guess they’ll find out one way or another. That could be dangerous for some of these high ABV haze brews or the over fruited stuff that hide ABV well. Sounds like someone needs to regulate on those regulators.

It dates back to some post-prohibition laws. They didn't want ABV listed because it was going encourage people to just pick the highest one.

    Weird laws are weird.

I haven't heard anything recently but both of those beers is supposed to be on hiatus this year which would go along with it not being possible for those to be new. That was per a brewery rep at an event last December.

Unless I am just batshit crazy, I could not find the ABV listed on several of the barrel brews on 4 packs I purchased in Indy 2 years ago. Every other container has it listed, though.

Just take a bottle out of the fridge at the brewery and look at the notch on the bottle

I meant what tells you these are not new releases. I messaged the brewery earlier and am waiting for a reply

Can confirm, no new batches of Peruvian or Cassian this year. The 4pks for sale at the brewery are from last year's releases.

Picked up 1 each 4 pack today of Barleywine and Peruvian at Tenutas Kenosha - plenty there. Vintage not ticked on label but appear to be 2018 vintage
