I was hoping the Brewer's Reserve series stouts had rounded a corner and left that watery thinness behind after I tried the Pecan Kringle stout and thought it felt thicker. But nope, totally agree on the thin Vanilla Cherry and I think it was just the sugar talking with the kringle stout. Left me wanting more of the BA Vanilla stout from the last couple years because that one at least had a great barrel/vanilla balance as a saving grace. Those über tart cherries overwhelm everything they put them in.

Personally, I appreciate their "thin" stouts. With all the hazy, unfiltered, milkshake, lactose beers these days, im happy to have a beer, especially a BA stout, that doesn't make me feel bloated like Violet Beauregarde.

And at their price point too. CW are some of my favorite BA beers on account of that thinness and cheaper prices. I can drink a couple and still function, and even have a few after dinner and yes, not be bloated to the extreme.

I had higher hopes for the Cherry Vanilla Stout. I didn’t pick up any vanilla and the cherry was barely there.

Does anyone know if CW is selling leftover Black Gold bottles at the brewery (assuming they have any)? I could potentially be passing through that way Sunday and will call and ask before going out of my way but thought I'd see if anyone here has noticed any BG takeaway sales.

Stopped by today and picked up bottles. Still both in stock and still both 2 per person. Was coming from 3 hours out so I called ahead to be sure before I left and based on the call I'd say there may still be a fair amount left but who actually knows. Also got to enjoy this surreal moment of being the only person there while finally ticking one of my all time bucketlist whalez Rye Black Gold. Still had Maple, BG, Rye BG, and Double Barrel all on tap.

At this point, doesn't that go without saying for the CW brewers reserve stouts?

On the subject of aged brewers reserve beers, 2016 bourbon barrel quad is drinking outstandingly well right now. If they ever do a beer vote like New Glarus everyone please vote for this.

I think we really need to see some more BB Scotch first.

What we really need is a fresh batch of Cassian Sunset. After having one of those old bottles they're selling to go at the brewery I gotta say it's tasting pretty damn long in the tooth.
