So what does the brewery have? Special taps? Is that sweet snifter they have always for sale? Debating making a stop either there or at O'So's after work Friday. I tried calling CW three times in the past couple of days, but they never pick up or their phones (or return emails) I guess...
Did you check your junk mail? I emailed them a couple weeks ago, didn't think they responded, and then realized that they had responded very promptly but it was in my junk mail folder.
Every time we have been there they have had some sort of special tap - last time (about a month ago) it was Petite. And they have had the snifters every time we have been there. I have only tried calling them in the afternoons on days when the tasting room is open and they have answered every time. And no need to debate whether to stop at Plover or at Central Waters - just stop at both. O'so has a wonderful new tasting room in Plover with maybe 30 taps?
CW has a cool, but small tap room. Generally two tiers, at least one nitro, and a couple of seasonals/rotating on tap. $3.75 / pint I think. It's nice because it's small and the taproom is really integrated within the brewery itself. Never been to O'so's.
depends on if there's an event, generally. on "off" days that i have been there it's pretty much the standards. maybe coffee stout is on.. maybe not. if it's around the time of one of their special releases that'll probably be on tap. the tap room is just a bar in the middle of their brewery. pretty no frills. but the beers are cheap, the people are cool and it's a nice quiet place for a beer (maybe a little more lively at night?). good luck with the snifters. i bought mine when they first came out. have since tried to pick up an additional one and been shot down every time. definitely stop at both. O'so has 40 taps. all Wisconsin. super cheap growler fills on about 75% of what's on the board that day.
Thanks for the info. Sadly no email back in my junk folder. I think I'll be making the stop at CW and crossing my fingers about the snifter. I really wanna get a pair
While you're in the drinking mood stop in Wausau At the Red Eye..... http://www.redeyebrewing.com/beer/
I was really disappointed when I stopped at CW this past July. They only has the year round beers on tap. Mudpuppy on Nitro was the "highlight". It was pretty much a wasted trip. Not to mention the tap room is nothing speical to see. O'So has a nice facility and wide selection. The bartender even proved to be knowledgeable after he finished flirty with some woman about twice his age at the other end of the bar.
Here is the email I just got. We do sell snifters -only out of the brewery right now though! Thanks. Paul Graham --Central Waters Brewing Company 351 Allen St Amherst WI 54406 www.centralwaters.com 715.824.2739
FYI When I was up in Appleton I stopped at an unnamed bar and I asked if I could buy their CW snifter I was drinking out of and they told me $5. Might be an option if you don't find them anywhere else. I would assume CW would have them though.
I was looking on the website and couldnt find a calendar, when do the bourbon barrel beers usually get released? (stout, barley wine, cherry stout specifically)
EARLY December is usually Y2K and BBS, BBBW and PM usually follow sometime in January with the cherry stout in February. God I hate their cherry stout
I love BBS and can't wait for it to hit the shelves later this year. About their tap room here is a picture from their website of the tap room itself.
Last time I swung by, they were selling bombers of BA Petite. The bar was dead, but the barkeep was very friendly. Had their Y2K for the first time about a month ago. Holy Cow!!! That was amazing stuff!
Really if you are in the area you should do Central Waters, O'so and Point brewery. All in a close vacinity.
was at CW on saturday for a charity run they hosted they had a Zwickel on tap (eta: apparently it's labeled Broken Window. news to me.), Coffee Stout, BBBW, BBS and one other that escapes me. could have been a special event list for the race. not sure. snifters were not listed on their white board as being for sale. though it seemed like just about everything else from t-shirts, to pint glasses, to growler prices was listed.
