Does CWBBS improve much with age? I'm down to seven bottles and wonder if I should hold onto a 4-pack for awhile. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

 

I'm a a big fan of aging beers, but I don't find this one particularly improves with age. It doesn't fall off a cliff or anything, but having had some up to 3 years old, I prefer the fresher stock. It's relatively mellow out of the gate anyway, and although I really enjoy it I don't feel like it has the complexity to develop into something "different/interesting" over time.

My preference is to get just enough to last me through the year, and then replenish with fresh stock the next year.

 

That was my expectation after trying it for the first time this year. It's interesting to hear from people who have had it in the past. Thanks for your input.

 

Recently had a '10 & '11 side by side. No contest. Drink it fresh. I believe the brewer has gone on record (or was it off the record?) saying the same.

 

Funny. I brought a '10, '11 & '12 to a small tasting a couple weeks ago. Only kept a few of the '10, more out of curiosity than anything else. The '10 was (almost) the unanimous winner & the '11 was the weakest. I think the '12 will be marvelous in a couple months.

Anyways, I didn't really believe this would age real well, being a lower ABV beer, but it did, but it might also have something to do with the variation in the beer year-over-year.

It improves greatly with age. I had a 2011 recently and it was fantastic!

Cork & Barrel in Oakdale had 3-4 4 packs on the shelves last night.

 

Did they still also have BN?

 

Nope. Perked up a little seeing the empty four-pack with an "ask for it at the counter" sign on it, but the guy said they'd sold the last bottle earlier yesterday & he needed to go pull it off the shelf. Always a solid place.

 

That place always has some nice finds. I had a hard time walking out of there on Wednesday without dropping $100.

 

I just called them and they said they haven't had any central waters stuff in quite a while; really strange.. your'e talking about the place just off Hadley and 10th, right?

Ha! No, I'm not that cruel. They were about in the middle of the rack the faces east, on the bottom shelf, & there were at least three 4 packs there as of 6:30PM last night. Unless someone cleaned them out in the final couple hours of the evening, which is certainly possible.
