Heads up Durham region, Ontario BAs. C'est What and Durham County has rebranded and is Brewing cask ales for the restaurant as well as having a retail store canning fresh ales in Pickering. Heading there today. https://cestwhatdurham.com/
Three brews; Al's Cask, Hop Addict, and the ESB are described as 'cask-in-a-can', they were canned from casks and are nitro infused. I have had all of these on tap before and after having one of each last night I will say they were pretty good. Definitely has the feel of a cask ale.
I haven’t been to C’est What in over a decade, but some/all of their house beers, brewed by County Durham, are regularly available in cask. This is the first I’ve ever seen anyone refer to nitro as cask or cask-like. I suppose they are trying to sell long-term fans on the canned versions. Regardless. This is a solid brewery that I’d heard was in jeopardy of closing, so this is a nice thing. As far as I know, it has been essentially a one man operation since opening in the mid 90s. Nice to see a patio option finally as this place is around the corner from the in-laws.
I was impressed. I will definately regularly buy as well as recommend to others that are fans of British style ales.
