I was at a local supermarket yesterday that was selling Deschutes regular lineup for $12.99 per 12 pack. So I looked for the Inversion IPA and it was all gone. And there were stacks of Chainbreaker IPA in the cooler and on the floor. I was a bit underwhelmed by it myself and haven't bought any since the first 12 pack. Not a bad beer IMO but just not one I enjoyed all that much.

I enjoy them thoroughly on a hot day. Just right IMO.

I think that Chainbreaker IPA is an OUTSTANDING beer. It won a Silver Medal at last year's GABF:

    Category: 18 American-Belgo-Style Ale, 71 Entries

Gold: Le Freak, Green Flash Brewing Co., San Diego, CA

Silver: Chainbreaker WIPA, Deschutes Brewery, Bend, OR

Bronze: A Little Crazy, Revolution Brewing, Chicago, IL

I guess it depends what your expectations are. It's a wit-IPA, and a damn good fusion at that.

Personally, I wand more IPA and less wit.

I really enjoyed it. It was a very sessionable hot summer day beer and a very good change of pace.

It didn't taste as hoppy as I expected, but I still liked it a lot.

I enjoyed several sixers of it during this summer's heat, and expect to do so again next year.

Assuming Deschutes is in Chicago to stay. I've seen a lot of product sitting on store shelves that has been past its "best by" date. Could also be part of the growing pains that Wirtz is having as they move into the world of beer distro and have to start worrying about product freshness.

Chainbreaker IPA is awesome on tap and fresh. After a month it turns to crap. If you tried it fresh and got the bug for a refreshing summer beer I suggest Allagash White. Chainbreaker is more of a Witbier then IPA anyways. Almost seems like they added IPA because that’s what’s in right now.

I don't know how well Deschutes was marketed nor introduced to Chicago drinkers when they first came around these parts. I saw some wheatpasted posters. But, I see that everyday. Just not from breweries from over a thousand miles away. Also, and probably more importantly. I'd kinda lean more towards it being that Chicago is under a deluge of choices and Deschutes isn't exactly standing out with it's goes good with food line-up.

I haven't tried it yet though I like Deschutes in general. Try Lagunitas Sumpin Wild if you like hoppy Belgian style beer. It is tremendous!

They did a whole lot of introductory events -- at least three weeks' worth at stores, bars and restaurants throughout the city and suburbs. Chainbreaker was the only sixer that I bought more than once, though I've liked their IPA bombers a whole lot.

I really enjoy Chainbreaker ( actually most white IPAs for that matter) and for $12.99 a 12 pack? C'mon that's a no brainer

Easy to drink on a hot day, but towards the bottom of the rung for Deschutes offerings to me. Still no slouch

I think Chainbreaker is one of those polarizing beers. A friend of mine was raving about it and drinks it all the time. I tried it and I really disliked it. I think part of my problem was going into it thinking IPA. Not sure that it makes sense that a change in name would make me like it better, but unfortunately I think it put me off because I was sitting down with it expecting something else.

I just had my first ever a couple days ago and thought it was really solid. And it was literally on its last "Best By" date so I have to assume it's quite tasty fresh.

I haven't had one in a while and miss it. Almost like a Belgian IPA, I think.
