Anyone had a chance to pick up a six pack of this yet? I just bought a sixer and reviewed this beer. It is pretty good. Not sure I would call it an IPA but it is a very refreshing wheat based beer that I am definitely exited to try on a hot summer day. Do any BA members have anything they'd like to add?

    Cheers y'all.

Had this a while ago. It is wit-ish but not IPA-ish to me. But still very nicely done, quite different and I'd eagerly have it again.

I love Deschutes but I honestly felt like it was a wannabe citrusy Blue Moon or something. I'll give it another try but my first time on tap failed to impress.

I'd agree with both of you. Its not an IPA really, but a very hoppy wheat beer. That being said, I love it and cannot wait for the weather to warm up because I think I will be drinking a TON of it on the boat.

FWIW, they went through many, many test batches and recipe tweaks before releasing it in 6pks. There's a good chance that if you had it more than 2 months ago it was a different beer.

Well then, if I see it on tap I'll give it another shot, but I'm not going to buy a sixer of it until I do. I had it back in January and it really didn't do much for me. A rare fail for Deschutes, IMHO.

Try "Galaxy" from Anchorage. Very delicious, and it's smell is out of this world.

I had it at a local mainstream restaurant on tap...Billygan's Roadhouse. Do they put out non production kegs to distro accounts?

That's a great question. It didn't show up in the distributor's price book until this month, so maybe they had some sort of Deschutes event and pulled it in as a special treat.

This place is a real shithole...they don't really do events, haha.

I had it on tap at the deschutes base camp event at schweitzer and liked it. Thought it was a bit like a toned down conflux #2. My judgment may have been clouded though since I was all ****** happy from amazing skiing.

Ha, I just googled the place, and it looks like a real winner. I especially love their claim of "best steakhouse north of the Columbia."

That's because it IS a toned down Conflux #2! And it's a hell of a lot better than Blue Moon...I can't believe anyone would even call it a "wannabe" beer.

FWIW I had Conflux #2 and Collaboration #2 side-by-side along with about 8 other beer geeks. Conflux was the clear winner, as Collab was a bitter mess. Not sure why Collab has such high reviews..it seems as those people didn't try Deschutes' version. Those Boulevard boys were way too heavy-handed with the bittering hops in that beer.

Schweitzer, eh? I'm in Moscow, ID. If you are anywhere close we should grab a beer sometime!

also, on topic, I found that chainbreaker got better with each 12oz bottle from the sixer I bought. At first it was meh, so i started this thread. by the 3rd or 4th bottle i was like, "yeah, this better be on tap where I am this summer"

*edit* i need to edit my review of this beer. imo it is closer to a 4.0 on the rating scale that what I gave it.

imo, it grows on you and is a very solid beer from deschutes.

    cheers y'all.

I first had this at the PDX pub last July (thanks, untappd!), and I remember really liking it then. It was hoppy and refreshing. I had it again (on tap) last week and it was a completely different beer. There's much more pronounced Belgian-esque yeast character, and the hoppiness is far more subdued. Like bunnyman said, it's much more of a Witbier than an IPA.
