Travelling to Chandler, AZ for a work event. We're planning a food and drink kind of thing from 7pm-10pm one night and looking at both Perch and San Tan as options.

I'm more familiar with San Tan, but wanted to get some thoughts from some local BAs before I just defaulted to that. Obviously food and space are considerations here as well. Thoughts?

    Neither.

AZ Wilderness and Beer Research Institute are better options, and both short drives. Even better, go to Whole Foods Chandler where you can find a few good AZ beers like Dragoon, but also find many great guest taps that represent the best of what is available in AZ.

But if you insist on your choice, then I recommend The Perch because they have great guest beers which are going to be much better.

I'll third most of the above comments. The Perch should be your last option but I'd throw in The Hungry Monk ahead of Whole Foods-Three hours at Whole Foods would be pretty boring. If it is only between San Tan and The Perch though-San Tan hands down.

I'm focusing on the fact that the OP said this was a work event (unless I misunderstood). To me, that takes AZ Wilderness and Whole Foods out of the equation. I think both San Tan and The Perch are good picks. In general, San Tan would be the best pick in terms of food and service, but The Perch has great guest taps (as well as unique/fun beers of their own) and a really unique space that can accomodate groups and take advantage of nice weather. The service and food can be spotty, though I did see some improvement on the food-front the last couple times I was there.

Hey guys, thanks for all the info. This is for a work event and we'll be staying at the Crowne Plaza on San Marcos St which is right next door to San Tan and just down the street from Perch.

Proximity to the hotel is key. We'll be in meetings all day and having to arrange transportation for 30 people is gonna be a non-starter when there are options within walking distance.

I'll be sure to check out Wilderness, Hungry Monk, and Whole Foods on my own if time permits but for this event, keeping it close to the hotel is a must.

coach and willies is also another decent selection for food and a large crowd. cant say much for their tap list though.

For such a large group SanTan is the only spot that will be able to handle your size group. The Perch would be overwhelmed with a party that size. Also I'd advise trying to make a reservation. They might be able to reserve an entire section or a large portion of the patio for you. Hopefully it is for this coming week because the following week is beer week and they'll be having events.

It's in March. We will definitely be looking to reserve space for the event well in advance. Looks like San Tan is the way to go. Thanks for the 411, folks!

From what I recall, San Tan has a pretty cool back room for private events...sound like this might be perfect for you.
