Just had a regular Westbrook IPA for the first time in a few months. I don't know if it's because it was fresher than I've had in the past, if my taste buds have changed, or they've changed up the recipe, but it was phenomenal. Has anyone else noticed a change in the flavor profile? It seemed much more tropical and juicy than I remembered - fairly similar to Tropicalia.

what was the canned date? When its fresh its amazing..same with One Claw..not sure why Westbrook cans fall off so fast but they do..

OP....had one last night and I thought the same thing as well...I actually did a double take and looked at the can and thought it was a Tropicalia I had grabbed by accident

Yes...the recipe was tweaked slightly upon the implementation of the new hop gun system in late October (IIRC). The improvement was exponential for IPA compared to One Claw (no recipe change here) but both have experienced improvement since the new equipment arrived.

I had a six pack of 10/29 batch one claw that was way over carbonated and a little "off". Had one from the 11/10 batch later that night that was perfect. Will have to pick up a recent batch of I PA to check it out.

Anyone care to explain more about the hop gun? I'm very pleased with the new ipa. Wasn't a huge fan of the older version but I can definitely get behind the new cans. Will definitely be seeking out fresh sixers in the future.

I'm sure it's recirculated. This device looks identical to Sierra Nevada's Torpedo.

I've been looking for fresher cans of Westbrook IPA in Raleigh and not finding any. All the Westbrook IPA cans I've found are from August or Sept.

Why can't I find a date code on the cans within the 6-pack the wife just picked up? Does Westbrook affix a sticker with the brewed on date to the 6-pack carrier?

On the bottom of the individual cans usually.

Appreciate the reply. 1st place I looked and nothing. Given the past experiences I have had with the Durham bottle shop it was purchased from the stuff has probably been on the shelf for months and precedes what may have been... I'm guessing here... the time frame when Westbrook began adding dates to their cans.

They've been dating their cans for as long as I can remember. Not sure if there was ever a time that they weren't, but I'd have to let someone else chime in on that. Maybe they got rubbed off somehow or maybe a particular 6-pack or case just didn't get dated in production.

Yeah. Not sure what happened regarding date coding but I tried it last night and was very disappointed. Based on the initial post in this thread I was expecting something somewhat "similar to Tropicalia" but, IMO, the beer wasn't even remotely close. Perhaps I had an old batch or perhaps it is just a difference in personal tastes. Oh well, $11 lesson learned.

From time to time there are batches or at least parts of batches where the dates are illegible or missing. I've even had individual cases where I could read them on some cans and not others. Also FWIW I find the beer inconsistent but almost always enjoyable but there was a recent batch (as mentioned above) that seemed way off. Given that you might have had that (or just a really old one) if you find it again and can read the dates I would say it is worth trying at least a single of again.

I'll have to see if I can get my hands on a fresh IPA or OneClaw...the IPA never did much for me, so if a tweak took place I'm all for it
