At the Portland brewery right now and very dissapointed with the changes to Fresh Squeezed...due to limited Citra supply, they've cut the Citra by 30% and attempted to make up for it with coriander. The beer taste nothing like the juicy IPA I absolutely love and can't imagine this being the permanent incarnation.

What are your thoughts on this PNW staple and it's change?

Nope...the bartender, waitress, hostess and a (off duty) brewer confirmed. The beer tastes nothing like it's former self.

    Hahahahahaha...don't think so.

They said they are adding Nugget as well, in small percentages later in the boil & at dry hop (they use Nugget for the bittering hop already) to make up for the Citra, along with the coriander. The coriander was obvious in the taste and the nose was completely off. I've homebrewed Fresh Squeezed for a couple of years based on a recipe one of the brewers gave me on a previous visit, and am very familiar with this beer...it's not close to the old Fresh Squeezed anymore.

They post the homebrew recipe on their website. Are you sure you were not drinking Chain Breaker, their IPA that has coriander in it?

Well, let's just see what makes it into bottles, shall we?

I agree...I'm curious if it's just at the brewery, and if in bottles, when?

The idea that Deschutes 1) was unable to secure a contract for the hops necessary for a production beer, and 2) opted to revise the recipe with coriander rather than another hop variety/blend or simply scaling back production of the original recipe is unbelievable. Consistency is paramount for breweries of that size, and an unorthodox substitution like that borders on ridiculous. I'm not doubting someone or even multiple someones told that story to you, but it's implausible that the brewery would change a beer that way.

That's what I thought...but supply and demand can create crazy bedfellows evidently.

DrMindbender is correct, fresh squeezed has been off for a month or so at our PDX pub:slight_frown:

In the OP, dude says he was there "now". If the beer has been off for a month, then what beer was he drinking, that 4 staff members told him was Fresh Squeezed with coriander?

We are there 3-4 x a week, it has been off (IMHO) since beginning of the month, also was told that FS IPA in Bend taste different.
I would go for Citrus Mistress!

What? I was drinking the modified Fresh Squeezed, even after they told me upfront that the recipe had seen a change. Evidently, this change had been in effect for a month now, according to @PortlandAlePatrol . Not sure where your disconnect with information is?

The opt for coriander in place of the Citra makes sense. Many studies have shown that the oils in Citra actually mirror many of the oil compounds found in Indian Coriander (not Mexican which tastes like bologna). Probably doesn't actually work out to a perfect match, but if you can't get the hops, gotta figure out something.

Now I'm really confused. Post directly above mine says that "fresh squeezed has been off for a month or so at our PDX pub". So, if Fresh squeezed hasn't been on tap for a month, yet you were drinking it yesterday, what beer were you actually drinking? Was it a new Fresh squeezed with coriander? Was it Chain Breaker, which is brewed with coriander? Was it something else? I got so many confuses.
