Hey guys I'm new here and looking to see if there are any beer tastings or groups in my area would like to meet an discuss tips and tricks and do some beer tasting in my neck of the woods look forward to hearing your advice
I just moved here a year ago. It's a really good beer city & state. Best craft beer bars are Tyler's Taproom, Milltown, & The Standard, in no particular order -- they're all great. There are 2 great independent craft beer stores -- Carrboro Beverage next to Tyler's & TJ Beverage across the street from Milltown. Both are great. However, Sam's Quik Shop in Durham is the best craft beer store in the state (at least that I've seen) & is definitely worth the occasional trip to Durham. If you're a homebrewer, 5th Season in Carrboro is great for homebrew supplies, and I use them 90% of the time. However, they don't have quite as extensive of supplies of malt, hop, & yeast varieties as Bull City Homebrew in Durham, so I go there when I need something unusual. Hope that helps.
yeah I have been to all the stores lol but i have been getting fresh grains and hops from Framboy he is a friend of mine is pittsboro and has a hop farm and grains and all that good stuff we should chat and try and get a brew club going in the area
I'd be up for that! I've met several Chapel Hill/Carrboro area homebrewers. There are clubs in Durham & Raleigh but I'd rather stay in town if doing a bit of tasting.
Milltown is awesome. Visited TJs once and pulled a lot of great off season stuff from the coolers only to get it home and find all of it badly oxidized and large amounts of rust under the caps. Off the shelf stuff was mostly fine, counter man sure did seem to hate having his job at that time.
Milltown is great, be sure to follow them on Facebook. Looking to do some more tastings around here, as well. I'm in Chapel Hill near the Lowe's.

TJ's has a little bigger selection than Carrboro Beverage. At Carrboro Beverage, you can drink while you shop. I buy 70% of my beer at Carrboro Beverage, 20% at TJ's and 10% at Weaver Street Market. I'm in Carrboro. Also, there are 2 breweries in CH, Carolina Brewing and Top of the Hill. Two new breweries in Carrboro; Starpoint and Steel String. I tried the Starpoint IPA at Tyler's and it was a good first effort. Hillsborough has a new homebrew store opened by the owner of Mystery Brewing. This is a great area for beer!
I live in Carrboro. I would definitely be up for getting a Chapel Hill/Carrboro homebrew group together. If we can get 4 or 5 folks to start, I think that'll be enough to get some momentum.
I think another night like last night is what hes talking about and as far as bars go, the Carrboro location of Tyler's is like the Cinderella of Tylers. usually pretty lowly, but occasionally they pull out something great. They announce big things like Hopslam draft via twitter and facebook. Milltown is terrible about announcing things through social media, but they regularly have the best draft selection in Chapel Hill/Carrboro. The Standard has a small selection, but everything is local NC beers usually from Olde Hickory. The manger of TJs has a great relationship with Olde Hickory, so he gets loads of their stuff, which he then shares with The Standard. I dont really like Carrboro Bev Co, i think TJs is much better. There most likely is a new bottle shop opening on Graham St. near Carolina Brewery in Chapel Hill which will be much better than anything else in the city. I like Top of the Hill a bit more than Carolina Brewery, and theres a new brewery opening in Carrboro very soon (Steel String). you should definitely make the trek to Durham and go to Bull City Burger and Brewery. Fullsteam is another good one. The Tyler's in Durham makes the one in Carrboro look like shit. lastly, I think me and Bluecane can get some tastings and trips together. PS you should look into getting tickets for World Beer Fest at Durham Bulls Park in October. i live by the Whole Foods on Franklin. Id be in for tasting groups, but Ill have spotty attendance.
Milltown has a current draft list in a thread on beerinator.com the bar manager has been updating it for several months now. http://www.beerinator.com/community/index.php?topic=5106.45 I'm looking fwd to homebrewing season starting again now that the days are getting cooler. I'd be up for meeting for a pint at some point as well.
