I wouldn't go to this type of share, if you're not willing to share a bottle don't bring it. Especially if you're cellar cleaning, for me personally I don't even count my cellar cleaning toward the amount I should bring to the share.

If certain bottles are so expensive/costly that you don't want to share with a group of people, then don't break them out.

I would never show up to any bottle share empty handed of beer and/or food, depending on what was called for by the host. I wouldn't go to any party at somebody's house empty handed of food and or drink.

I would like to hear more details, especially since you mentioned contributing beer, but if this was an invite, to a persons home, then it was not a "share". It was a sampling. I would have legitimately laughed out loud if someone told me that thinking it was a joke.

Like, lerose said your money isn't good at my house. It would be fun to have people who really enjoy beer come over and experiment with different types of beer. Couldn't imagine charging guests

I saw this once on a FB group once, I think he took 10 people and then everyone paid like $20 and I want to say he had 20 FW boxed beers (Parabola/Anniversary/etc).

Basically getting 2 beers split into 2oz servings. I didn't go but it did seem like a pretty good deal, and it filled up really quick. If someone did this close to me with the high ABV Bruery beers which are impractical to open more than two of in an evening, I'd probably consider it.

If you lived close to me, I wouldn't take your money to open a Black Tuesday or a Mocha Wednesday. I am always looking for help to drink a lot of my big beers anyway. I am sure you can find people who don't suck and run illegal bars out of their homes close to you. I meet, trade, and share with them all the time.

Exactly. These days I consider it to be a given to share one of these giant Bruery bottles at 18%+ ABV...and don't even think about, nor have I ever, getting anything in return.

I hosted a bottle share with my friends once where I was going to share a very expensive bottle. I just asked them all to bring a crocheted doily, or an old Jim Nabors LP, or something like that. I didn't really want any of that shit, I just did it to be a dick.

I've been thinking about this since my previous post and I've decided what I would do is say that for me to share the bottles I brought would cost exactly as much money as the host was asking. If he doesn't want to pay up than neither do I and good night sir! Fight fire with fire.

Not for me and I have never been to one where anyone paid a thin dime. I relate that to letting the air out of a tire and not having a spare.

Did the dude also charge you for the cost to flush the toilet when you took a leak? Rental cost for the spot in his driveway that you parked? How bout the cost to cool or heat his house while you where there? Charging for a bottle share is some lame ass shit...

Don't recall a charge in a previous discussion
Cost was split equally between the participants and the cost of the bottles
Beers were brewery only bottles. I'll leave it at that

I assume this guy lives in his parents basement so my only question is was this fee a "cover" charge for eating his dad's pretzels and interrupting his parents Matlock rerun?

I have seen bottles that I did not want to put all the $ out on and sent a text asking a friend if they wanted to split the cost and the beer.

If you come to my house I supply beer. Most people bring beer with them. When I go to other homes I bring beer with me for anyone to drink.

If I bring a special bottle I will ask to be alerted when it's opened so I can get a pour but if I don't oh well. I took it to a party so that's on me.

The last time I remember being asked to pay was at a keg party about 25 years ago or more.

    Enjoy

Isn't the whole point of a "share" to..."share"? I would think it's implied everyone contributes something...and if the host happens to open a few special bottles...that comes with the territory of hosting.

Maybe I can start charging my extended family at Thanksgiving if they only bring crappy store bought pie?
