Going to Charleston in a week.

Best places for a good variation of craft beer?
Best places for food? Seafood, bbq, and casual dining?

Edmund's Oast for the first 2 questions. The Ordinary for seafood. Lewis BBQ. Harold's Cabin/Blind Tiger/Bay St Biergarten for casual.

But, we are still in a pandemic despite the ease of travel. Who knows what's open and what's not.

Like stated above, I’m not sure what’s open. I’ll be there in 2 months. One of my favorite places to visit!

Beer - Edmunds Oast (no brainer), Gin Joint (for bourbon and mixed drinks), The Barrel (just saw this - haven’t been there, but looks cool).

Food - Husk (if you can get a reservation) and Husks Bar behind the restaurant , Magnolias, High Cotton, Martha Lous (southern fried chicken)

Granted we have not been to Chucktown in a couple of years but we did a yearly trip which included dinner at Husk. The first couple of times, it was great, the last couple not so much. I think the departure of Sean Brock definitely impacted the quality of the food. On the flip side, the bar at Husk is an awesome place for a drink or three. Having my first Mexican Cake there was a fantastic experience back in the day even though it along with most every other non mixed drink is overpriced. FIG and Macintosh were our favorite "high end" dinner spots.

Thank you for your input! I have yet to go to FIG and it’s on my list this time. I’ll have to try Macintosh as well.

I miss the beer bar that was not far from Laganitus (not there now). What was it called? They had a TON of stuff on tap and awesome bottle list. You walked into a small area and the bar was around the back...insane amount of taps. Craftsman Kitchen and Tap House! That’s it!

It's a shame that place closed. It was always a great afternoon stop. Give the Griffin a go - they had solid beers last time we were in town. Honestly the less good meals we had were from the tourist traps. Between Yelp and Google, you can find a lot of places that have excellent food. Callie's, glazed, Ted's, 167 Raw, etc etc etc. Way too many places to eat. Might as well plan a second trip now, lol.

As far as seafood, I can't say enough good things about 167 Raw. The lobster roll is second to none & the oyster selection is great. The dining is casual w/ a very very small seating area, maybe seats 12 - 15 including the bar. You may want to call & see how they are serving during this COVID time. They don't take reservations, but they will serve you beer while you wait on the sidewalk:stuck_out_tongue:.

Also, they have Charles Towne Sungazer on draft & that's all you need when in Charleston:grin:!!
    Enjoy your trip!

Edmunds is open. Lewis BBQ is good but Rodney Scott’s is better for the BBQ scene. HUSK has lost a lot of appeal and really is not talked about much any more. Downtown has it all. I like SNOB, 82 Queen and Poogans Porch. If you want to make a nice drive up Hwy 61 to Middleton then the restaurant there is outstanding. Wild Olive on Johns Island is good too. I would hit up Obstinate Daughter on Sullivan’s Island.

There are so many places it all depends on where you are staying i.e. East of the Cooper, the North area, West Ashley, or downtown. If you want to pm and let me know I can give you better ideas.

Just FYI, 167 Raw moved to a new spot on King street that’s bigger. Don’t skip Lewis BBQ

Edmunds Oast for beer. Fleet Landing is good been there many times it’s at Market and Bay St, it’s right on the water. Hanks Seafood is really good too, it’s maybe two streets over from the old Market but close to Bay St too. Poogans Porch is on Queen St maybe a 5 minute walk from the old Market. You have to hit the Gin Joint for drinks, these guys are mixologist they just don’t sling shitty drinks. Their Old Fashion and Mint Juleps and simply phenomenal, especially the latter, it’s on Bsy St maybe 2 blocks from the Old Market. But it’s Charleston, there’s really no nice place to eat that’s really inexpensive per say and driving is a hassle. But they do have bike taxis you can take anywhere at a time to save your legs, and if your into history a bit take one of the 2 hour walking tours, this time of year it should be perfect.

I’m assuming everything is at 1/2 occupancy so I might look at eating maybe a bit earlier if you can, October I’m sure is the busy season. The only place that might be a hassle is the Gin Joint, it’s small already. My brothers loves Magnolias Fish and Chips, he said it hangs over the plate the portion is so large, I’m into Shrimp and Grits, and ever place I mentioned is first rate.

Went with a few fellow beer geeky friends last year. Edmunds Oast was every bit as good as advertised, beer food and service. We also went to Commonhouse Aleworks which was phenomenal... They nailed a wide variety of styles. Nice folks too
