I am coming to Charleston on Saturday, and spending Sunday through Thursday on Hilton Head Island for a conference. I am wondering if anyone has some tips on places to buy beer in Charleston as well as any decent pubs in Charleston or HHI.

Secondly, if someone wants to set up a trade I can bring a few 4 packs of Surly with me. Wouldn't be looking for anything special, just $4$ on something I can't easily get on shelves in the places I am going to be.

    Cheers,
    Ryan

The Charleston Beer Exchange is the place to go for beer in the city. Great singles selection, ok 6 pack selection, and a few nice selections for growler fills.

While on Hilton Head you will want to check out Growler's Craft Beer and Ales. They always have some locals on the tap list and a great selection of bottles. Unfortunately, you just missed on COAST Boy King at Growler's but the brewery should still have some on Saturday when you get to Charleston.

I just made a trip to Charleston last weekend. CBX is an obvious choice, but head over the bridge and hit up the House of Brews in Mt. Pleasant. The owner Rob is a super chill guy and very helpful. They also have some beers CBX doesn't or is out of. If you have time hit up both, you won't be disappointed. Bring growlers too as CBX has a good rotation of taps.

I just got back from Charleston and had a fantastic experience visiting Coast, Westbrook and particularly Holy City, which felt more like hanging out at a BBQ party than a visit to a tasting room. My girlfriend, who is far from a big beer person, even had a blast. The North Texas Beard and Mustache group might have helped with this too. :grinning:

Also got a chance to check out Closed 4 Business and Tattooed Moose which were both great. C4B has a lot of local brews on tap including Boy King when I was there. Awesome city and can't wait to get back there again.
