    Hey guys,

Going to be visiting friends in Charleston Memorial Day weekend before driving up to OBX for a family reunion the following week. Will be driving home to NH.

Looking for any and all suggestions for beer, food, golf, activities etc. My buddy in Charleston isn't a huge beer guy, and I'm trying to just compile a list.

Definitely will be visiting Charles Towne Fermentory, and then hitting The Veil, Tired Hands and Other Half on our way back up the coast.

Thanks in advance for the help!

re OBX: it would be helpful if you were more specific on where, if you are in Corolla then my suggestions would be significantly different than if you are in Hatteras. That said, Trio is the best bottle shop in the OBX.

    Shops:
    Trio isn't too far
Sweet T's in Duck has a good selection
    Chips, 2 locations

    Food:
Blue Point in Duck, make a reservation well in advance
    Roadside in Duck
    Aqua in Duck
    Urban Kitchen in Corolla
    Duck Donuts, multiple locations

The Currituck Club is close to where you are staying and one of the better courses out there, there are a few on the mainland that are probably a little cheaper

For beer in Charleston I think Charlestowne Fermentory and Edmunds Oast are musts. Edmunds Oast also has great food. Westbrook might be worth a trip to get mexican cake or other releases.

Depends on what type of food you want and how much you want to spend but Charleston has it all pretty much. I can give you some specific recommendations based on food type and price.

    RE: Richmond (The Veil)

Reads like you are into IPAs........If you have time during your stop in Richmond I highly recommend Triple Crossing, Final Gravity and The Answer as well. Easily the top 4 (in no particular order) breweries pumping out IPAs in the area in addition to Veil. Triple Crossing does 16oz cans and Crowlers. Final Gravity and The Answer do Crowlers but no cans.

Veil does can releases on Tuesday's so the 30th would be a good day to come through but as long as it's not some crazy release week, which would include a collab and/or Gose as part of the release(s), some cans should last at least through Wed or Thursday if not a little longer.

We'll only be there for a few days, I wouldn't say anything over-the-top expensive... all food types though, I'm somewhat of a foodie

For seafood I recommend the Ordinary, its great. Located in an old bank, really cool. Barbecue I would hit up Lewis (only other location is Austin), its great and has nice outdoor seating. Edmunds oast I already mentioned, get the charcuterie plate, its all done in house. For solid and not expensive food Rarebit on king is good. Get the hot chicken and waffles (not on the menu) and a moscow mule (on draft), a good place for brunch though I go for dinner too. For seafood a new place just opened in the old cigar factory, Rappahannock oyster company (a couple in the Richmond/DC area too), its pretty much a straight oyster bar. Havent been but looks great and friends recommended it to me when I was visiting Richmond. There is also Bar mash in the cigar factory you could go to before/after for drinks. Husk is another good place though its frequently booked but if you are craving good southern food right next door is Poogan's porch and its great. Get the mac n cheese, its awesome.

Already mentioned beer, for cocktails I recommend Edmunds Oast (sensing a trend? this is a must go), Proof on king, Gin Joint and Belmont.

Hope this helps and let me know if you want other recommendations (I could go on for a while).

I would also highly recommend Mekong in Richmond. It's won Best Beer Bar in American several times by a few different publications / sites and it's not one of those cheesy beer bar rankings. Completely legit. Owned by the same person who owns The Answer and is located in the same building (Mekong in front / The Answer around back). If you do do yourself a favor and try the Andalls. You will never want to leave!
