Not at all. I enjoy the place. Really cool area, ambiance is great, food was good, and I enjoyed the beer. Not being from the area, maybe there are better places (which I'd love to hear about). But, its the best of that type of establishment we have stumbled upon in our 3 trips there.

So. . .in other words, feel free to enlighten me on better choices for our next trip. I'm always up for checking out new places!

Well, I had to google that, since I really had no idea what your were talking about (I thought maybe something about virgins). I will assume some sarcasm indicating that is an over-hyped seafood location =).

I did not go there. However, I did go to A.W. Shucks, and enjoyed it immensely. Of course, the fact that they had 90 minute on tap didn't hurt. But, as I said to the Goonie guy - feel free to enlighten. It costs a lot of money to take a family of four to a town 10 hours away, and I'm all about making it a more enjoyable trip on each subsequent journey.

If you search any Charleston thread, you will find long lists of great beer and food spots. No one would ever suggest Southend. You are lucky to find a drinkable beer there.

Hell yes. I did make it out at high tide yesterday. I was trying to teach a friend how to surf, so we stayed in the shallow for the most part. I did spend about 30 minutes all the way out, and caught a nice stomach high set. There were definitely some should high ones, if you were patient. The side current was pretty bad, and pushed me 7 blocks down the beach. This morning, it is a washing machine out there.

Yeah I checked the surf cam this morning and opted for more sleep.

Raverjames (goonie guy) is spot on with bowens island rec. strong representation of local beer, and badass seafood. Not too crazy hard on the wallet either.

Rather than hit Southend, hit the griffon. Very reasonably priced, good beer selection and great prices.

If I am in Charleston, I drink beer at the Griffon English Pub.

Don't bother with Lowcountry Bistro, poorly served, excessively loud, worst shrimp And grits on earth .

Mexican Cake is on tap at total wine as of yesterday! They also probably have most coast brews available right now. Charleston beer works Aldo had a keg of Mc but I kind of doubt its still there.. may be worth calling

    Best beer spots:

    Coleman public house
    The griffon
    The tattooed moose
Bowens island - best local craft selection on tap I've seen
    Genes haufbrau

We hit the Gin Joint for drinks, and no beer, the best Mint Juleps I've ever had anywhere.

I know it's an old thread, but I enjoyed some good surf today out at Folly. A few chest high sets randomly rolling through, lots of fun!
