My wife took a new job in Charleston, West Va. We packed her up and moved her this weekend, but over the past couple of weeks I’ve been searching for beer stores in the area. Any time I go out of town I look online for beer places so I know where to visit. The best place I could find in Charleston, I subsequently found out, is going out of business. If anyone is from the area, could you please give me the skinny on where to shop? I know those folks like moonshine but there has to be some place to buy imports and craft beer. Thanks
What I usually do when traveling is to check both the BA place listings and Google Maps. I'll search "beer store" and "liquor store" on Maps and check the ratings and reviews. Charleston has a few places listed on here and the Maps search turned up quite a few more. You might want to ask the mods to move this thread into the Mid-Atlantic forum. You may get more area-specific traffic over there. Good luck!
The only place I have visited in Charleston, WV is Fife Brewing which I found the beers to be decent. Not sure how you are getting back and forth but I found a couple of decent places in Scott Depot, WV which was right off of I-64 (Fruth Pharmacy and The Pallet Bar).
When my daughter was going to school in Morgantown, WV I would usually pick up beer at Kroger. They had a pretty good beer selection for a grocery store. I looked online and there appears to be 4 Krogers on the Charleston area. Might be a place to start. Good luck on your beer hunting.
If you take a right off the Lee St. Exit (Coming from Huntington (east bound)There are 3 breweries on Summers St.: The Bad Shepard (Which is located through a large glass window) at Black Sheep Burritos & Brew.Which is at the corner of a parking garage. Then there is Fife St. Brewery (Chuck P-51 is a classic Porter). FY I- Fife St. is a wide brick alley way. About three doors down from Fife St. is Short Story(Lefty's Place{Pizza Place} all in one). There is a new brewery opening on Hale St. (I haven't been there yet.). Pies & Pints on Capitol St. The other end of Fife St. Is a small gourmet pizza chain Very busy. Nice but, a little small tape selection. Bottle selection is excellent. They even have Cuvee Renee Geuze. Left off the Lee St. Exit on Washington St. W (second stop light/one way from the underpass)) is Charleston Nano Brewery(very little food.), There is a Meadery about 3-5 doers up. Bullock Distillery is across the road a little bit before the nano brewery. The Wine Shop in the Capitol Market has a very good selection of beer & a growler filler. Also, Drug Emporium has a great selection of beer & growler filler.
Yes, Fruth Pharmacy in Scott Depot has a Great selection of beer including Gueze. Try the Chuck P-51 Porter next time you go to Fife St.. See my post below or above for more Charleston info.
Thanks. I’ll keep your information on hand for my next drive through the area. Also I note that I tried that porter and had a positive impression of it as well.
Glad to help! Oh, The new brewery on Hale St. is 'Ursus'. https://www.facebook.com/p/Ursus-Brew-Works-61575153037613/
