Going to be in Charleston for two nights next week. Anything I should check out? Any beers I should try? From viewing the forums it seems like WV may be a beer wasteland. Thanks.
I've heard good things about the Bridge Brew Works. Haven't been in WV recently though so I can't vouch for them personally.
WV is a beer wasteland. we are slowely starting to get a little bit of a selection my liquor store has hoptimum, i might be the only buyer, they also still have tumbler and celebration ale. bridge brew is good but overpriced. since you are in charleston go to Quaker Steak and lube and get some wings.
Go to Pies and Pints (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/24698). They have the best beer selection in town. They have 6 taps and 50 or so bottles, I believe. I know that doesn't sound that great, but it is the best around. They'll have a BBW beer on tap and probably a few of their bottles if you are interested in local flavor. Their pizza pies are good and I also recommend the pulled pork nachos for an appetizer. For local beer shopping go to the Liquor Company on Patrick st. (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/10107/view=beerfly). They'll have BBW bottles and some other standards (mass distributed stuff: SN, Great Lakes, Sam Adams, some foreigners, etc...). Tell my brother-in-law, Adrian, I said hello.
Yeah, I'm afraid you nailed it. Bridge is the only local that you could find in bottles, and for some reason they think it's worth 14/bomber. Get it on tap if you can, just to try it out at a reasonable price. Pies and Pints is your best bet for an evening out with decent beer. There is also a beer-guy blog in the Charleston Gazette that keeps an eye on the local scene (such that it is) and will have news of any special tappings--sometimes there is something different.
