Traveling from Michigan for a wedding this weekend. Does Charleston have much of a beer scene at all? I noticed that WV only has 33 beers on for the State's top 100. Any must visits? Also, does anybody have any recommendations for bottle shops in Charleston? What type of Distro does WV get? Thanks,
Other than some local beers and a few east coast breweries, you won't find much in WV that you don't already have in Michigan. If you'd like to sample the state's best pizza & try some WV craft beers, check out Pies & Pints. As for stores, there are two Drug Emporium's that carry (for the most part) everything that the bottle shops do, for a better price. Also check out Black Sheep Burrito (formerly Charleston Brewing Co), You'll be able to find Charleston Brewing beers on tap there, and it's close to Pies & Pints. The best beer bar in the state is 45 minutes west, in Huntington. If you feel like taking a ride, Summit Beer Station is as good as it gets in WV. Feel free to hit me up with any other questions.
If you are driving, go through Athens, OH and stop at Jackie O's Taproom. I usually drive from Detroit to Charleston, WV monthly and always make it a point to stop in. They've got quite a few Barrel Aged bottles for sale plus you can grab a Growler of Mandala Citra.
