I'll be in CHS next month for a long weekend. Other than Edmund Oast, are there any other solid beer bars I should check out? Haven't visited in almost 2 years so I just want to make sure I have some solid go-to spots. Also does anyone know of any bars currently serving PVW? Thanks!!

Our forum turns over quite a bit so these might be a few pages back but there have been several what-to-eat-and-drink-in-Charleston threads over the last couple of months. I know this because I read them and always think, "Damn, I really need to get back to Charleston."

Now, whether any asked so specifically about Pappy is a whole 'nother Nutter Butter Peanut Butter sandwich cookie. From Nabisco.

    House of Brews
    Craftsmen
    Coleman or Maybank Public House
    Oak Barrel Tavern

That's just a few. Lots of solid beer bars. Our site is down ATM or I'd just point ya over there.

PVW -- I'd try Mash first. Maybe Gin Joint, Bar @ Husk, Belmont? No guarantees, but those are probably good starts if you're hunting it.

McCradys is an excellent place for spirits and cocktails. The bar menu is great for small plates, I haven't had time to do the full menu.

I haven't had much (i.e. Any) luck with Pappy in Charleston. Now if you want to make a day trip to Columbia, it was all over the place there. Had this a couple of weeks ago

    Hell of a night

What's Pvw 23 $150 an ounce? Nothing can be that good.

Hit the the Gin Joint on East Bay St, a block or so from the Market. Best mixed drinks in the world. Hanks Seafood is great, Fleet Landing , Poogans Porch all within easy walking distance from each other, Great Shrimp and Grits at all three. If not take a bike taxi it's easy and cheap. IMO the beer places are all ok, their nice, the beer IMO is pretty average.

Am I the only one who thinks the Gin Joint is insanely overrated. Granted, I have only been there once but there's a reason for that: the service is insanely slow, the drinks are all expensive and mostly just taste like straight mescal. Ditch the Gin Joint and head over to the bar at Cypress. Good cocktails, much better atmosphere, and real food.

Also, I would advise against Hanks Seafood, but thats just me.

I like Cypress, Good place. Gin Joint has good cocktails but not the best in that town. It typically is where we ended up when we started getting too loud for McCradys bar. Not a fan of Hanks as well, it's fine but you're in a town full of great.

For hangover food in the morning I've enjoyed breakfast at Hominy Grill but haven't really explored the other breakfast spots of Charleston.

I do love me some Hominy Grill, its a little touristy but fantastic breakfast food.

My wife & I saw PVW at Mex 1 Cantina (West Ashley) about 6 months ago and they were asking $60 a shot. I don't know what the vintage was. Too rich for by blood!

Mercantile and Mash and Swig and Swine both have PVW. You can usually always find it somewhere in Charleston. I second Closed for Business, prime spot on King street with good bar food and usually plenty of local beers on tap. Also, not sure when you're coming, but if Lewis BBQ has an event going on I highly recommend going if you have time, best BBQ you will ever eat. Beer, Bourbon, and BBQ.. I think you're all set.

Love Charleston , it's a safer much cheaper option than New Orleans.

Hard to tell by the fuzzies but was this at Bourbon? That's where I tried my PVW little baby sips (4 of us split a flight)

It was indeed at Bourbon, excellent call. Amazing the bar at my hotel also had all 4 of those variants and 23 yr (Marriott downtown). Most impressive thing I've ever seen at a hotel bar.

On my last visit, I had a few well-made cocktails at the Gin Joint along with a few tasty bar snacks. I found cocktails to be fairly cheap ($10), not only there but in Charleston in general. I live in Miami, so a poorly made drink anywhere will run you at least $10. I don't plan on going to GJ this time around. Definitely going to Cypress for a few drinks and the charcuterie. Have a res at McCradys's as well. Hominy Grill is a nightmare on weekends but it was worth the wait

Haha that's exactly the noise I make when thinking or telling someone about it. I've eaten that burger several times at Husk, but have never actually made it to The Bar. This time I most definitely will
