Coming to Charlotte in early May. Be staying near the convention center. Checked trough forums and Beer Mapping, but always like to get the local take on things. Looks like lots of bars near where I will be. Any that stand out? And breweries close that are can't miss?

I have all day Sunday and some flexibility the next couple of days.

Any Sunday blue laws I should know about?

    Thanks as usual!

If you scroll down the 'South Atlantic' page, there is a recent Charlotte post that has plenty of good information on breweries, brew pubs, bottle shops, etc.

As far as the Sunday Blue laws, I know they were recently relaxed in the past year (previously couldn't purchase any alcohol before noon), but you would have to find out from a local what it changed to.

Do you have a car? Your best bet is probably to head to the NoDa area and hit Heist, Resident Culture, and Salud. You can buy alcohol starting at 10:00a on Sundays but that doesn't mean places will be open. Heist brunch is supposed to be great but it's super busy.

I did see the lower thread, but I always like to get direct
feedback. No car, but I might have to break down and finally sign up for Uber.

    Thanks for the input!

FWIW I went to Heist visiting Charlotte last summer (I uber'd, it was worth it). I liked their beers in general but stumbled on Citraquench'l which was good enough to trade for. They've apparently been canning it and releasing it monthly since February which is good news.

It was crowded when I went but I had no problem posting up at the bar on my own.

If you're near the Convo Center, you could take the Light Rail either north or south, if you didn't want to Uber/cab it.

Heading south, you could hit the South End breweries -- They're all 1/2 mile or less from the nearest rail station: Wooden Robot (Bland), Sycamore (East/West), and Triple C and Hyde (New Bern).

Heading north, NoDa and Salud are less than 1/2 mile walk from the 36th Street station, though in different directions. On the way there or back, stop at Parkwood station and it's a ~0.6 mile walk to Birdsong Brewing. (Note: These neighborhoods can be sketchy, so depending on your tolerance for that, you could uber from the stations to the breweries.)

As others have mentioned, NC recently enacted the Brunch Bill, making alcohol sales on Sunday legal after 10am. Not all places are open that early, but if they're open, you'll be able to drink. If you're here the weekend of May 5-6, Sycamore is open at 10 for Sunday brunch. They have a great outdoor area, full lineup of beers, a food truck and usually have live music.

Highly recommend Resident Culture. They are CRUSHING the NE IPA game, and I prefer theirs over Heist if you can believe it.

RC is great, especially if you (like me) prefer hoppy beers. Unfortunately, it isn't really around anything, which makes it more challenging if you're trying to hit multiple breweries (and would like to do so by foot). But definitely a great place to hang out, and they have a great indoor/outdoor space.

You can walk to Legion from RC (done it plenty) and then walk to Catawba. Birdsong is a 15min walk from Catawba. Then Devine Barrel, Bold Missy, Free Range, and Salud, are about a 20 minute walk from there. Yes you might walk a few miles in the day (or spend a few bucks on Uber) but you still have to walk a good bit in Southend as well.

RC -> Legion -> Catawba is certainly walkable. IMO, Catawba is pretty underrated here. Yea, their shelf beers you'll in the grocery store are pretty generic, but the brewery in PM has a whole load of small batch stuff and they mix it up a lot. It's also a huge space. Worth a visit if you're in the area.

If you're going the RC -> Legion -> Catawba walk, stop by Hop Shop on the way. It'll have one of the best tap lists in Charlotte with a mix of national and local beers and is a pretty good bottle shop too.

If you like walking and you're feeling really ambitious (and it's still light out!), you can keep walking from Catawba over to Birdsong, and then to Heist and Salud.

Great suggestions all. Looks like my Sunday morning will be mapping things out. Never been afraid of public transpotation or walking. You need to go through some sketchy areas to get good beer here in the SF/Oakland area as well.

    Thanks!

You won’t be walking any sketchy areas walking around to the breweries. Maybe not a beautiful walk but not sketchy by any big city terms (like not even a little). Enjoy!

Got a late start Sunday and miscalculated some locations, but did make it to Heist. Some sterling IPA. Hit RC Tuesday evening and was equally impressed. Was able to have so Noda & Catawba in cans at various locations.

Lovely city. Light rail was fast and efficient. And everything was so clean!

Thanks all, hope I can get back at some point.!

Going in a few weeks for a concert. I can't seem to find prices on OMB website or even Yelp photos. But how much do they charge for those steins?

I'll be in Charlotte in August. Maybe I skipped over it in other posts, but can breweries sell cans/bottles to-go? Or is it better to go to a shop?

Breweries sell can/bottles to go if they do them, otherwise a fair amount of places do crowlers.

Thanks for the info. I'll be in Charlotte this weekend. If anyone can name a few accessible, recently-released IPAs, I'd be grateful. Don't get those where I live and want to indulge!

Also, not sure if this breaks the site rules mentioning this, but I have an IP offer on the trading forums in the South Atlantic forum.

Heist is releasing Uberquench'l and Blurred Is The Word cans this afternoon. Pretty good chance they'll still be around over the weekend. Also, Resident Culture has a triple can release on Saturday.

Additionally, Heist usually will sell crowlers of any IPAs they have on draft.
