    Hey everyone!

Just putting some feelers out there to see if there is an existing Charlotte, NC tasting group. We'll (my wife and I) be leaving my Texas tasting group in June when we move to Charlotte :slight_frown:. We are moving from Jester King/Freetail country into Ass Clown/NoDa/Birdsong country!

If there isn't already a group would people be interested in starting one?

    Cheers,
    Chris

I don't know of any existing tasting groups in the Charlotte area, but I would definitely be interested in participating in one

Same goes for me! Although I'm not aware of any regular meetups, there's plenty of great Charlotte BA's who I know would be down for getting together and sharing some heady brews.

This is awesome! Obviously, I'm not going to ask you guys to wait until June. Once I get there I'll post monthly get outings and we can meet up and open some bottles .

I'd encourage you guys to get started if you want. Do you know if any place will let you bring in bottles or would this need to be more of a home based thing? I can email breweries and ask if need be.

Thank you for the positive response and I hope to meet everyone soon!

There are some circles in Charlotte that do this sort of thing, though nothing formal. The Charlotte Craft Beer Brigade has organized a couple (it's a closed Facebook group to prevent spammers, but please, by all means, request to join).

ALE has cracked down on bottle shares, even though they don't really seem to be illegal.

So in summary, there are some groups of friends that do this thing from time to time, but nothing formal. Look forward to having you in Charlotte!

Charlotte has fantastic BA community! My wife and I moved here 2+ years ago and have found this city to be quite welcoming. Salud in NoDa is a great starting point and I'm sure you'll hook up with some fellow BAs here and will be quite pleased with the atmosphere. This city (and state) rocks in the craft beer world, you won't be disappointed! We do pretty regular low-key tastings, I pulled a BA B9K out at the last one and the rest of the group blew my mind with their offerings. Hit me up when you come in town!

Hopefully people like Texas turds that are sour. I live near this crappy Jester King place and Freetail.

Wondering the same thing. Haven't seen a proper bottle share in Charlotte for a while now. There's been some under the table ones, though...

This is why I never bother with these things. One must "pull out" and "blow minds" aka have whalez. One can try and argue that it is about commradre and sharing and meeting people, but after many years it is apparent that it tends to be very cliquey and a competition. Some of that is just the physics of it, how many ways can you split a 22 or 12 oz bottle?

To me these things should more focus on hitting up all the local establishments when they have interesting stuff on tap. More of a they just put or are going to put x on at Salud or Good Bottle, etc, lets get together and go try it.

Yea, I'd be down for doing some tastings/bottle shares. I know Tom at Common Market Plaza Midwood is pretty cool with people bringing in "outside" bottles to share. Have had a few good tastings there with @JackTheBear amongst others

While I thought the tone of my post was obviously positive, apparently is wasn't to everyone. Just to be clear, there is never any requirement to bring heavy hitters to any of our tastings nor are they ever cliquey. We take a lot of pleasure in sharing with complete strangers and pleasantly surprising them as well. If it were cliquey or competitive, I assure you I wouldn't be a part of the tasting. OP, swing by Salud and say hello when you get in town, my name's Jamie.
