Just had a bottle of the new Lemondrop., great stuff would be a cracking August in Bend beer. Looked back at my ratings and it seems i missed last years Mosaic, sure i had it. Anyone know were i can get 2014? .I know it wont be great but just for my records.
I passed on it @ WF (wading past the Fresh cases...so bummed for you Salem folk), for the 2nd time. I won't, again. Mosaic was my 1st Fresh Hop, after I moved to PDX, last year. I will not pass Lemondrop up, again, seeing as the Mosaic was so good. A mid-7% bomber really ties on my buzz. Cheap date...after I kick this flu.
2015 Chasin Freshies is my first experience with lemon drop hops. So different I can't really describe. Has a candy like flavor.
Just had a bottle last night. Very enjoyable. Bright pine and citrus hops with a near lager like finish...imho
I haven't had this years yet, but I've always found Chasin Freshies to have a lager/pilsner quailty to it. Maybe it's the malt?
i agree. it always seems to have that crisp-ness. i was a little underwhelmed by last years, but had the lemondrop last night for the first time, and it was quite tasty. i'll have to grab another, you know, for science.
I felt like the 2013 version was very "pilsner-y," and I wasn't a fan. I didn't get that in last year's version, which I thought was vastly superior in every way. I'm not sold on this year's, but I've only had it once and I was a bit foggy, if you will. I, like @blackcloud, might need to do more science.
Must be based on my taste and the comments above. I thought it was enjoyable, but I'll not be chasing any more bottles
Update, first off incredibly different from last years which was fruity with a solid caramel bready malt base. This reminds much more of a Pilsner, with a huge herbal finish, some light cereal malts and a very 4:20ish dankness to it. It is a delicious beer, but it will not taste like an IPA you are used to. With every sip, I like it more an more, but I was a bit surprised at first. You really have to love that spicy floral and herbal bite to enjoy this beer to it's fullest. Very different than your typical PNW IPA.
Have to agree. At times I felt like I was sucking a lemon Jolly Rancher while taking swigs of Pilsner. Didn't work for me. -- Nathan
I didn't get so much sweet lemon from it, which is weird as I am prone to it, but it took me half a bottle to let my palate get used to it. After that, I gladly had three bottles and likely will grab a couple more.
